Their first ever interaction was at a Liberation Army Meeting a month before the last time Asumi was in control of her own body, one announcing Shigaraki as the grand commander. He was observing the room, taking notes, remaining undercover in a room easily crowded with hundreds. They also announced the heads of singular units, and that was when he saw her in person for the first time.
The room was celebrating and conversing as he kept up the act, watching her in the crowd as he spoke with a small group of people, throwing around a toothy grin and saying "long live the liberation" to cover up his current focus.
Twice had been the one to mention a secret asset after a little digging, but that was enough for him to get a good idea about what it was. All it took was Twice glancing in her direction once, and he connected two and two after what he had read on her–having done a little reading on all of their files of what little info they had.
He knew about this whole sister situation, piecing together what the cops didn't as they hid the truth behind closed doors so it wouldn't crumble the fragile foundation of the society they were using him to protect.
That led him to Asumi's file.
All this time, the youngest Amajiki thought they never believed her about any of the quirk transmitting and other details, but they had. They knew she told the truth, at least the Safety Commission did, but no one else could know that.
But Shi's file was paper thin, a total mystery. She was the piece he couldn't quite connect, and he needed to know where she played into all of this.
Hawks approached the mystery herself with his usual, charismatic smile, "Hey. Long live the liberation, am I right?"
His grin went unseen because she didn't even spare a glance. She didn't appear to be social after the announcement, sent off to mingle yet kept to herself–quite the contrast to her overlay-crazed act she put on as the villain: Jinx.
She may have not gone by Shi Amajiki, most didn't know her name, but he knew exactly who she was.
Or did he?
"Brr, the cold shoulder." He leaned against the wall beside her, pretending to be people-watching the crowd that he escaped when really his attention was on her as he played the part, "What else to expect from the secret lieutenant. I must admit, I'm curious."
She finally bit, mock interest in her tone, "Hawks, was it?"
His silent smile was a cue to continue, "The man too fast for his own good, hm? I almost forgot you went villain for the cause." She shot him a smile with a slight jut of her head, not quite reaching her eye. To him, it made it that much more chilling. Being an actor himself right now, she was quite good, too.
He grinned and played along, the two acting like they were having a brightly lit exchange as they leaned against the wall beside each other with their heads lolled toward one another to give attention. His leg was propped up, hers crossed in front of herself, her arms crossed over her chest and his shoved in his jacket pockets. If it was any other circumstance, this would be a picture-perfect exchange, as their show was quite believable, but their shadows lingered on the wall behind them glaring at one another. It waited for one to slip up so they could sneak in for the kill.
