"As you can see, we've got clear, sunny skies forecasted across Japan. We were anticipating a week of stormy weather so I'd like to apologize for being so off the mark. But hold onto your hats out there folk, as we are expecting some strong winds."
The gust that blew that day in the wake of a great battle somehow already turned into a memory as a week passed, as did the conclusion with the end of the war that the heroes won.
The U.S. and other nations showed up quickly with an outpour of support and resources, all of which were helping restoration and rebuilding efforts. Something that would've taken over a decade had been reduced drastically by the exceptional and it wouldn't be long before things...
"...Won't ever be back to normal."
They were in a hospital closer to the edge of Japan because the one in the city they normally attended was evacuated long ago when things started to get too bad in the city. If it weren't for the sterile, pungent smell of the room he had been in, he would've smelt the salty air from outside given they were right next to the sea.
Bakugo was dressed in a bathrobe-styled patient gown and in a bed that had been fully drawn upright, leaving him merely leaning back. One of his arms was hooked with his IV, his other completely wrapped in bandages as was his face and chest. An enormous band wrapped over his chest as if holding it together, though he was sure it was because he had another procedure done.
The meds left everything with a dull ache, and he could hear the doctor talking to his parents beside him, explaining his condition meant for him to process as well.
"As I explained prior to the surgery, this is the best we could hope for."
He was supposed to be giving them his full attention, but he found himself distracted with his eyes on Asumi in the bed beside his own as she lay asleep. '
She was okay and he knew that, but his heart clenched at the thought of taking his eyes off of her.
Her expression was soft and peaceful as she slept, healing in her conscious absence. It was a different kind of sleep, one he had previously taken advantage of until this morning when he woke up. When your body is so tired, so hurt, all it can do is sleep because it needs to focus every other effort on what's going on internally first. It costs too much to simply open your eyes.
And he was far too nervous to move his away. Last time he did...
"I promise you we did all we could, especially after seeing your son's exploits."
They had healed her leg, a quirk used because the damage was so excessive, and they had been giving her body the nutrients she lacked for weeks. Her state had only worsened in battle. Due to the fact it had barely been attached to her body and only held together by the strings of Best Jeanist, it was still a long process even with the quirk help. The healed bone was reset into place, muscles and tissue were growing back under the skin, and a massive brace that wasn't so "made-on-the-battlefield" was set to keep everything in place as her body adjusted and tried to gain strength.
