The blow of a candle or the shutter of blinds closing leaving you in the dark was often a daunting task. Most feared the missing light as they were not able to figure out what could be lingering in the dark with them. The thought of what could be right in front of them that they could not see, revealed by merely a haunting breath, was enough to make hearts race.
Though, Yume could not be defined as such.
The darkness was maddening but something so familiar.
With darkness came silence; the type of silence where you could hear your own heartbeat rhythmically pattering in your body through your ears.
It was not so much the darkness she was afraid of, but the suffocating and inescapable loneliness with only herself as company.
Ever since she was a child, dark rooms of her childhood home were all she really knew to protect her from the outside world. Upon her murder, she remained trapped and buried in the minds of hosts in an attempt to keep her from falling into the shadows that had already filled her body from the inside. A child who had gone through so much, wanting nothing more than a peaceful light to lull her to sleep one last time.
She had never wanted this, and she didn't want to be here now.
A mere child had been shrunken and beaten by a cruel world, her tired heart beating for the selfish benefit of others.
She had never gotten to live fully, but then again, she shouldn't be here now.
She wanted to leave. She'd do anything to escape this nightmare and... live up to the name she had given.
That name.
Yume.
She held it so close to her heart, picturing the little girl who matched her own age giving it to her in full confidence that she could truly be as such despite what everyone else said. Could she really be a dream?
Oh, how she wished she could live out her own.
It was so hard to fulfill, reduced to merely a quirk to be passed along or a distorted memory of someone who did not exist.
She had to fulfill her name, a task latched onto her soul stuck to life like poorly woven stitches that she couldn't cut.
It was so hard to do while... here.
Here was somewhat difficult to define. She struggled to understand the weight of what that meant, but truthfully, she had always known.
All of her dreams had been fulfilled. She had friends. She had a family. She had gotten to smile. She had gotten to besomeone good, not a monster, even for just a moment.
But the task at hand was so far, and she didn't quite understand what else had to come next.
Neither she nor Asumi could even tell who or what All For One wanted anymore. He wanted so much of them without explanation, the intertwined pair set upon a pedestal of his design. They were a display with a conflicted purpose, stealing the light that made the image so clear.
