Inside the TARDIS...
Amy and Lexi each woke up in a jump seat with a gasp. Rory woke up on the stairs. The Doctor gripped a lever on the console to mover it.
"This is bad. I don't like this." The Doctor kicked the console out of frustration and just ended up hurting his foot. "Argh! Never use force. You just embarrass yourself. Unless you're cross, in which case - always use force.
"Shall I run and get the manual?" Amy asked.
The Doctor went down the stairs to look under the console. "I threw it in a supernova."
"You threw the manual in a supernova? Why?" Lexi asked going over to the railing to look down at The Doctor.
"Because I disagreed with it. Stop talking to me when I'm cross." The Doctor waggled a finger at her. Lexi let out a huff and walked back to sit in a jump seat.
"OK, but whatever's wrong with the TARDIS, is that what caused us to dream about the future?" Rory asked.
"If we were dreaming about the future..." The Doctor started heading back up the stairs.
"Of course we were. We were in Leadworth." Amy firmly pointed out.
"Upper Leadworth." Rory corrected.
"Yeah, and we could still be in Upper Leadworth, dreaming of this. Don't you get it?"
"No, OK, no, this is real. I'm definitely awake now."
"And you thought you were awake when you were all elephanty."
"Hey, pregnant."
"And you could be giving birth right now. This could be the dream. I told you, trust nothing we see or hear or feel. Look around you. Examine everything. Look for all of the details that don't ring true." The Doctor went to mess around at the console.
"OK, we're in a spaceship that's bigger on the inside than the outside." Rory stated.
"With a bow tie wearing alien." Amy continued.
"So..." Lexi stood up from her chair and walked over to the other three. "maybe 'what rings true' isn't so simple." Lexi finished with air quotes.
"Valid point." The Doctor confirmed nodding at Lexi.
All of a sudden the TARDIS powered down leaving everyone in virtual darkness. The only light was coming from the console.
The Doctor glanced around in surprise and worry along with everyone else.
"It's dead. We're in a dead time machine." The Doctor said desolately.
The birdsong started up again. The TARDIS started getting darker. The Doctor grabbed onto Lexi to hold her up. Rory went and took hold of Amy in his arms.
"Remember - this is real," The Doctor glanced at Lexi and then at Amy and Rory. "but when we wake up in the other place, remember how real this feels."
"It is real. I know it's real." Amy and Rory started to fall to the ground with sleepiness. Lexi casted a sleepy worried glance at The Doctor before her whole body went limp. He too fell the ground with her in sleepiness.
Upper Leadworth...
The Doctor was standing in the middle of the street as a group of schoolchildren passed by. Amy and Rory woke up on the bench outside the library, with Lexi again waking up on the ground beside the bench.
"Seriously. The ground again!" Lexi grumpily said standing up and pulling another leaf out of her hair. She again looked at her ring. She took it off for a second and turned it over in her fingers examining it. She sighed and put it back on. It was as almost if she couldn't exactly remember how, or where she got it; only that The Doctor had given it to her.
"OK. This is the real one, definitely this one." Amy rubbed her pregnant belly. "It's all solid."
"It felt solid in the TARDIS too. You can't spot a dream while you're having it." The Doctor started waving his fingers in front of his face.
"What are you doing?" Rory asked as he, Amy and Lexi walked up to The Doctor.
"Looking for motion blur, pixelation. It could be a computer simulation. I don't think so, though."
A woman walked by the group. "Hello, Doctor."
"Hi"
"Hello." Rory replied.
The woman paused to look back before continuing on.
"You're a doctor." The Doctor said to Rory questioningly.
"Yeah. And unlike you, I've actually passed some exams."
"A doctor, not a nurse. Just like you've always dreamed. How interesting." That was all The Doctor said before grabbing Lexi's hand and walking away with her.
"Why are you holding my hand so much?" Lexi asked, but The Doctor didn't answer. He just kept holding her hand.
"What is?" Rory asked as he and Amy followed them.
"Your dream wife, your dream job, probably your dream baby. Maybe this is your dream."
"It's Amy's dream too, isn't it, Amy?"
"Yes. Course it is, yeah."
"What's that?" The Doctor asked pointing with his thumb over his shoulder.
"Old people's home." Amy replied simply.
The doctor looked at the home and saw the residents looking out. Lexi titled her head in confusion but stared at it intently. Something did seem very weird.
"You said everyone here lives to their 90s. There's something here that doesn't make sense. Let's go and poke it with a stick." The Doctor headed off while dragging Lexi along with him. Rory followed with a groan.
"Oh. Can we not do the running thing?" Amy asked exasperated putting her hands on her back. She followed as quickly as she could.
Old people's home, Lounge...
"Oh, hello, Dr. Williams." A resident greeted Rory as he and the rest of the group entered.
"Hello, Rory, love." A woman greeted warmly looking up from some knitting she had been doing.
"Hello, Mrs. Poggit. How's your hip?" Rory asked kindly.
"A bit stiff."
"Oh, easy, D-96 compound, plus... No, you don't have that yet, forget that." The Doctor rattled on as he let go of Lexi's hand. Lexi's went and stood by her sister. She rubbed Amy's back trying to sooth her in any way. Amy was very grateful for that.
"Who's your friend? A junior doctor?" Mrs. Poggit asked.
"Yes." Rory said a bit smugly.
"Can I borrow you? You're the size of my grandson." Mrs. Poggit asked looking at The Doctor.
The Doctor kneeled down as Mrs. Poggit put a jumper over his head. "Slightly keen to move on. Freak psychic schism to sort out." The Doctor leaned forward, which forced Mrs. Poggit to sit back. "You're incredibly old, aren't you?"
Out of nowhere, that blasted birdsong started up again. The residents looked on as The Doctor, Rory, Amy and Lexi fell to the floor, asleep.
