The Big Bang [Part 2]

Museum roof...

The Doctor climbed out of the stairwell and onto the roof. Lexi, Amy and Rory followed.

"How is it morning already?" Lexi asked looking up at the sky.

"History is shrinking. Is anybody listening to me? Universe is collapsing. We don't have much time left." The Doctor used the sonic on a satellite dish.

"What are you doing?" Rory asked.

"Looking for the TARDIS."

"But the TARDIS exploded."

"Ok, then. I'm looking for an exploding TARDIS." He removed the dish from its mounting.

"I don't understand. So, the TARDIS blew up and took the universe with it. Why would it do that?" Amy asked.

The Doctor stood on a raised section of the roof. "Good question for another day. But for now... total event collapse means that every star in the universe never happened. Not one of them ever shone. So, if all the stars that ever were are gone, then what is that?" He pointed to a large ball of fire in the sky. "Like I said, I'm looking for an exploding TARDIS."

"But that's the sun." Rory said.

"Is it? Here's the noise that sun is making right now." He held up the dish and amplified the sound of the TARDIS with the sonic. "That's my TARDIS burning up. That's what's been keeping the Earth warm."

"Doctor, there's something else. There's a voice."

The Doctor adjusted the settings of the sonic.

"I can't hear anything." Lexi said a bit confused.

"Trust the plastic."

"I'm sorry, sweeties." It kept repeating.

"Doctor, that's River. How can she be up there?" Amy asked.

"It must be like a recording or something." Rory supplied.

"No, it's not a recording." The Doctor stated. "Of course, the emergency protocols... The TARDIS has sealed off the control room and put her into a time loop to save her. She is right at the heart of the explosion."

The Doctor used the VM and disappeared only to reappear a few seconds later with River.

"Amy! Lexi! And the plastic Centurion?" River questioned.

"It's ok, he's on our side."

"Really? I dated a Nestene duplicate once... swappable head, it did keep things fresh. Right then, I have questions. But number one is this... What in the name of sanity have got on your head?"

"It's a fez. I wear a fez now. Fezzes are cool."

With a look from River, Amy grabbed the fez from The Doctor's head and threw it into the sky and River shot it.

"Oh!" The Doctor said disappointedly.

Lexi wrapped her arms around his midsection and leaned her head on his shoulder. "Aw, I'm sorry."

He looked down at her and smiled. A fez was nothing compared to what he could have lost if that Nestene had shot her.

"EXTERMINATE!"

The Doctor was ripped from his thoughts as a Dalek appeared, levitating up the side of the building.

The Doctor grabbed Lexi's hand and slung her out of harms way. "All of you, run! Run, run, move, move. Go! Come on!"

He covered their retreat by holding up the satellite dish as a shield as the Dalek fired. They climbed back through the stairwell.
