Inside, Hotel, Bar...
Amy was sitting in a small booth in the bar, staring down at her hands. Lexi sat at the bar while Rory stood behind it, pouring her a glass of Scotch before handing it to her. In the room beyond them, the Doctor was having a tantrum, screaming and knocking things off tables. He then moved to the far booth, Gibbis at the middle booth.
"You know, alcohol probably isn't the best way to cope with... well, what we... you saw." Rory told Lexi quietly.
"Does it look like I care?" Lexi asked, raising an eyebrow at him before downing her glass of Scotch, the liquid burning down her throat.
"Okay." The Doctor began, not having heard them. "It preys on people's fear and possesses them." He stated as a completed Rubik's cube sat on the table in front of him. "But Rita wasn't afraid, she was brave and calm. Maybe it's something to do with the people, some connection between the four of you that'll tell me how to fight it."
"Yes. You keep saying that, but you never do." Gibbis informed him. "And while we wait, people keep dying. And we'll be next!"
"Look, he'll work it out, he always does." Amy said, looking over at Gabbis. "Just let him riff and move anything expensive out of his way."
"Oh, no. Oh, no, no." The Doctor started muttering.
Amy looked over at him. "Doctor, what's wrong?"
"It's not fear. It's faith." He stated in realization. "Not just religious faith, faith in something." He thenwalked over to the middle table. "Howard believed in conspiracies, external forces controlling the world. Joe had dice cufflinks and a chain with a horseshoe. He was a gambler. Gamblers believe in luck, an intangible force that helps them win or lose." He then moved between the tables. "Gibbis rejected personal autonomy and is waiting for the next batch of invaders to tell him what to do. They all believe there's something guiding them, about to save them. That's what it replaces. Every time someone was confronted with their most primal fear, they fell back on their most fundamental faith." He then sat on barstool next to Lexi and rubbed his eyes. "And all this time, I've been telling you to dig deep. Find the thing that keeps you brave. I made you expose your faith. Show them what they needed."
"But why us?" Rory questioned, pouring more Scotch into Lexi's glass. "Why are we here?"
"It doesn't want you." The Doctor told him. "That's why it kept showing you a way out. You're not religious or superstitious, so there's no faith for you to fall back on. It wants them." He said, gesturing at Lexi and Amy.
"Us?" Amy questioned as she came and sat on the other side of the Doctor. "Why?"
"Your faith in me... I think." He replied. "That's what brought us here."
"There's something that I don't get." Lexi said, taking a small sip of Scotch. "Why do they lose their faith before they die and start worshipping... whatever this thing is?"
The Doctor looked at her. "It needs to convert the faith into a form 'it' can consume. Faith is an energy, the specific emotional energy the creature needs to live. Which is why at the end of her note, Lucy said..."
"Praise him." Amy suddenly stated.
"Exactly." The Doctor nodded at her.
It took a moment for what Amy said to sink in.
Rory quickly walked over from where he stood across from Lexi at the bar to stand across from where Amy was sitting. "No. Oh, please, no."
They all then could hear the Beast coming.
