The morning of Valentine's Day, Eleanor found herself waking up quite early, long before she was supposed to meet up with the Weasley twins. She could already feel the butterflies in her stomach at the anticipation of spending the majority of the day with Fred, even if George was also going to be there. She had spent most of the week trying to get out of the "date-not-date" since Marnie and Cedric were both convinced that she was actually going on a date with not one, but both Weasley twins. She asked Fred if Lee could take her place, after all, he happened to be their best friend, but he told her that Lee had already made plans and would be unavailable.
Eventually, Eleanor just gave in, knowing damn well she liked the idea of spending the day with the twins, although she couldn't help but feel bad for Marnie. Because while she was busy with Fred and George, Cedric had managed to get himself a date with Cho Chang, leaving Marnie all by herself for the holiday.
Before she was set to leave for Hogsmeade, Eleanor went to breakfast with Marnie to keep her company, but it was quite clear that Marnie had woken up feeling miserable. Usually, Marnie turned to food for comfort and emotional support, however, that morning, Marnie had yet to touch anything on her plate.
"Well, if I stood any chance before, that chance is long gone," Marnie muttered, "did you see how excited he was talking about his plans for today? Merlin, to be Cho right now. She's pretty, she's sporty, she has Cedric chasing after her. Fuck me."
Eleanor frowned, watching as Marnie started to pick apart her own appearance, believing she could never measure up to Cho.
"Marnie, please don't talk about yourself like that," she said, "you're not being fair to yourself. Besides, for all you know, this whole date could turn out to be disastrous. In fact, maybe it'll be so bad, Cedric will come back to the Common Room, and he'll find you. You'll be there to comfort him and there will be a moment, where he looks at you and suddenly, he'll realise that he's fancied you the entire time."
"Ellie, please- "
"You two will lock eyes, share a kiss, and then go on to marry. And you'll have hundreds of angry quidditch babies."
"Ellie- "
"Of course, you'll name one after me. I'll be flattered..."
Suddenly, Eleanor was kicked under the table, causing her to yelp out as she reached under to rub her shin. The two glared at each other before Marnie started to finally eat something off of her plate.
"Why are you still here anyway?" Marnie asked as she bit into a slice of bacon. "Shouldn't you be headed to Hogsmeade already? Cedric already left."
"Fred told me to wait here for them," Eleanor said with a shrug. "Or maybe they decided they didn't need me to join after all."
"Doubt it, and what exactly are you three doing in Hogsmeade again?"
"Well, they've been developing their own product line of pranking items. Kind of like Zonko's Joke Shop. They want to open their own shop one day, but they want to test out their inventions before all that, see what works and what doesn't. I think it's actually neat that they want to open their own business, and I..."
