An old man, after being in a car accident has difficulty moving around his flat. In result of this, he gets most things delivered. His groceries, delivered by a woman every Friday, and newspapers everyday by the newspaper man. Apart from them, his other visitors are his daughter and son who visit him regularly and there is a dog walker who comes every Friday and Monday.
Friday, the newspaper delivery man, knocks on the door. But there is no answer. He knocks thrice more, without answer, or hearing any movement from within. He eventually looks through the keyhole, where he sees an astonishing sight. The old man lies bloody on the floor, a knife protruding from his chest.
The Newspaper man calls Scotland Yard, who arrive shortly after the call. When they come, they glance at the objects lying outside the door. On the floor are Tuesday's newspapers, two bottles of warm milk, some unopened mail, a note from the dog walker saying he was on holiday in Egypt and couldn't make it, and gifts from both his children.
Scotland Yard wastes no time, and handcuffs the murderer.
