Laura's husband had suffered from a rather unfortunate accident, leaving him unable to breathe on his own and very much dependant of a life support machine. Meanwhile, Laura was at his side as often as possible and cared for him with a golden heart. This interfered with her personal life, for her schedule was purely to look after Charles.

Some days the kids would visit when Laura was too busy to be there for him, which improved her me-time a bit. Their daughter lived only three blocks down from their apartment, and their son moved into the same building so that he was only four floors below his parents.

One day, Laura had arrived back from a relaxed day at work and was ready to go up the elevator, give Charles his lunch and then take a relaxing bath while listening to the new album from her favourite band. However, as she entered the dark building, greeting the receptionist politely, she then went through to the elevator hall. When Laura got there, she went pale. She wondered why she hadn't realised sooner. She knew her husband was dead.

How did she know?
