my parents always used to tell me

that i was an expert at making something

out of nothing

and sure that helped me sometimes

when i needed to stay home from school

i could turn a slight ache in my stomach

into a touch of the flu

but when you touched me

and your eyes softened at the corners

that is when i realized the fatality of this

because when you can make something out of nothing

trust me

the only people you are fooling is everyone else

because you know that nothing exists

it is there always

tugging at the ends of your hair

dripping from your eyelashes

reminding you constantly

that no matter how many kind words

he wastes on you

it is still her name painting his lips

before he falls asleep every night
