Protect you from all the horrors you never wanted to see
All the things you went through that changed you as a person forever
I wish I could be there to kiss the corners of your eyes before any tears could slip out
And hold you when the tears just don't come
Sometimes it just absolutely breaks my heart to hear all of the stories you tell me
As you absentmindedly play with my fingers and you get lost in world I don't have access to nor belong in
I hope you don't ever forget that it's okay to let your heart be soft when you've been taught your whole life it has to be hard in order to just make it through
That for now on, it's not you against the world
It's the world against us.
