forgive & forget

I thought the alcohol would make me forget the look on your face every time that you told me that you loved me and the feel of your soft hands mapping all of your secrets into my skin.

I drank until I could hear your voice singing to me in your jeep. I drank until I was brave enough to pick up the pen and puncture a hole in my heart so I could spell out the dark red ink, every single one of the "I love you's" I never said.

I thought alcohol would make me forget but all I could think about was how I'd much rather have you pressed against my lips than a damn bottle.
