Undercover ~Kai

It all happened a year ago, when I was in my last year of school. A new guy came: Kai. Every girl wanted him. He was handsome and charming and smart, not to mention an incredible dancer as we soon found out and I remember the day I truly met him like it was yesterday…

You screamed. He looked up and pulled a face.

“I didn’t want you to see that.” He dropped the gun back into the duffle bag on the ground. You were behind the old factory next to your school; you had come here, because this was where you spent your Sunday afternoons in autumn—reading and drinking some tea you got at Costa’s. But that day there was someone there. That day you saw a man kill a man. That day you saw Kai kill a drug dealer. He grabbed the duffle bag and your hand and pulled you away from the dead, cold, bloody body on the ground. You could see the earth soaking the red, gooey liquid up and turned your head away quickly. Kai was still dragging you around the deserted factory buildings, until he came to the one right at the heart of the deserted complex. He quickly dug out a key and opened the door, with another backwards glance he pushed you inside and then followed quickly, locking the door behind him. The room was filled with computers and technical stuff; there were weapons on the wall behind a sheet of glass. You stared at your surroundings and then turned to look at Kai who had put the gun down on the table and was now looking at you. You knew your eyes were probably wider than dinner plates, but in that moment your appearance didn’t matter. You had just seen Kai- handsome, sweet Kai- kill a man with a gun. Before you knew what you were doing, you backed up, away from him.

“Amnea—please, let me explain—“, he winced and took a step towards you. You just stood there frozen, backed up against the wall.

“You—killed him.” You whispered.

“I know. You shouldn’t have seen that.” You raised an eye brow at that.

“Really?!” your voice was dripping with sarcasm. Kai chuckled.

“Really. Who do you think the guy was that I killed?”

“A- a bad guy?” you looked up at him, confused- what was he playing at. “You better explain this to me: why did I just see you shoot a man?!” you felt your hysteria build up again but forced it down; you couldn’t afford to be in hysterics now.

“I…well… ok. I’m in the FBI. I’m in school on an undercover mission to uncover a drug dealing gang; the Inprobi.” You stared at him, your chin on your chest.

“The—FBI? Seriously!? You expect me to believe that?” he sighed and shook his head.

“I knew you’d say that—“, he mumbled and searched through his duffle bag again. “Does this prove it?” he asked and held out a little leather wallet. You took it reluctantly and opened it; there was an FBI badge and ID inside. It was definitely Kai. You stared back up at him and nodded. Then you frowned.

“The Inprobi? My brother said something about them…”

“What did he say? Who is he? Why would he know anything about them?” Kai shot one question after another and you just blinked.

“My brother, Kris, is in a gang. They call themselves “The Vigilantes”; they watch out and protect the people here. He said something about a gang called Inprobi and that I shouldn’t get involved with them at all.” Suddenly Kai was in front of you, holding your shoulders in his big hands.
