The hot, steaming water hit your skin in an almost painful blast but in that moment you didn’t care. All you wanted to do was wash all the dirt off your skin. Grabbing the nearest bottle of body wash you could see, you scowled slightly at the manly scented soap but used it anyways; scrubbing your skin so hard you were surprised it didn’t come off. You squeezed your eyes shut as images of that afternoon popped up in your mind and you turned all your attention to your hair, massaging your scalp and frowning ever so slightly again at the masculine scent of the shampoo. But then you guessed that he hadn’t expected a girl to take a shower at his place.

“Jae Yoon?” You heard him call your name and ceased your efforts to get all dirt off you for a bit.

“Ne?” You replied and pulled a face, disgusted by the vulnerability in your voice.

“You’ve been in the shower for almost an hour now. I think you should come out. I think I understand why, but—“

“Yes, Lay. I’ll be out in a minute.” You sighed, cutting him off. You heard his footsteps trod away from the bathroom door slowly, always hesitating as if he still had to say something. Reluctantly you rinsed your hair and washed your body once more before you turned the hot water cold to cool off your heated skin. You felt the air escape your lungs and shuddered; you turned off the water and stepped out of the shower. You stepped out of the bathroom, wrapped in one of his big towels and into his small flat. There was a delicious smell wafting your way from the kitchen and you felt the corners of your mouth twitch up in a sad attempt of a smile. Your eyes swept around the room and you found a neat pile of clothes set out on the bed.

Thought you’d like some clothes to wear~ Lay x

You felt your mouth twitch again but the muscles in your face weren’t complying yet. You hurried to get dressed and go to see Lay. On your way out you stopped to look into the big full-body mirror next to the door. You were wearing one of his oversized shirts and a pair of leggings that you had left in his flat a few days back. You hair was piled on top of your head in a wet mess and your skin was an almost sickly white. There were dark circles under your eyes and you could see a light bruise on your left under arm. You wondered how you could look so normal after—

You were walking through the city towards your flat. The meeting with your colleagues had taken longer than expected and the winter afternoon was already darkening. You wrapped your dark coat closer around your body as a cold gust of wind ruffled your hair as it gushed through the street. You heard something clatter behind you and turned quickly but there was nothing there. Unsettled, you kept walking until hands suddenly grabbed you and you were thrown and pressed against a wall. The ragged, heavy breathing of a man fanned your face; it reeked of alcohol and you tried to turn your face away but he grabbed your chin and tilted your face up.

“Now what’s a pretty thing like you doing in the streets at night?” His voice was slightly slurred and raspy and it made you want to throw up especially when he closed some more distance between your faces. Then he started pressing his lips against the skin of your shoulders, you writhed and screamed and tried to get him off, but he was massive, his muscles bulging and he probably weighed about four times as much as you. you felt his hand on your body; touching your legs, your butt, your stomach, your—he pulled your coat off and started slipping your shirt off your shoulder when  he was suddenly  pulled off of you and you sank to the ground. You lifted a shaky hand to cover up your exposed shoulder and you looked up to see Lay’s face. Lay the bad boy. Lay the heart throb. Lay the one who saved you.

You shuddered, crossed your arms over your chest and left the room. Leaning against the doorframe to the kitchen, you watched Lay. The bad boy was at the stove frying eggs. You couldn’t help but chuckle, but on the outside all that showed your amusement and surprise was another light twitch of the mouth. Lay must’ve felt or heard something because he turned around and smiled at you; a warm smile, a friendly, open smile, a very put of character smile for the bad boy. And you started to think that maybe he wasn’t that much of a bad boy after all.

“Jae Yoon, please sit. I made some—er food. I didn’t know what you liked so I just—“, he stuttered and this time you managed a small smile.

“Thank you for everything Lay. How can I ever repay you?” A ghost of a smile crossed his features.

“As long as you stay safe, Jae Yoon, I’m good.” He whispered and he was so quiet that you almost didn’t catch what he was saying. “Come on, eat now. Let’s discuss things later.” He smiled his warm smile again and you couldn’t help but just sit down and devour the wonderful scrambled eggs on toast that Lay had scrapped together.

Afterwards when you were sitting on the sofa in front of his TV-set, he suddenly scooted closer and wrapped his arm around you; you flinched slightly and he just pressed his lips to the top of your head. He took your left hand in his and lifted the arm up to his mouth, kissing the bruise.

“Nobody will ever hurt you again. I promise.” And for some reason you believed his mumbled promise.
