Out

"When you say we're going out..." I begin, earning the attention of both of my parents, "Where are we going?"

"Well, your mom's got something to pick up on the high street but we can go anywhere you want," Mama explains and I perk up instantly. It's been a while since I've actually been out with my moms even for a day, so it'll be good to hang out with them.
Plus, there's a hoodie I've been eyeing for a while.

"Can we go to that clothes shop I like?" I ask and they look at each other before nodding, and I punch the air.

"Someone's a little excited." Mama points out with a chuckle and Mom looks at me in the rearview mirror with a mischievous smirk.

"Shut up!" I groan sarcastically even though she didn't say anything and she just winks before going back to driving.

"You love me." She jokes
right back and reaches backwards to ruffle my hair, to which I grab her wrist to stop her.

...

"And then Johnsey..." I catch but get bored of the conversation my moms were sharing, again. Instead, I turn and look down the street a little way. I should come into town more often, it's pretty.

Each store is painted a different colour and most have a shade sticking out from above its door too. The road is cobblestone, the sky is clear, and the shoppers all seem to be in a good mood.

Then, something at the corner across the street brightens my mood, but I'm not sure exactly why.

Leaning against the wall, with her white jumpsuit standing out against the dark blue wall behind her, was Ms Cabello.

She seems to notice my staring, or maybe my mom's loud laughter, cause she looks up from her phone and over in my direction.

Oh man, I have a major crush.

She then sees me and waves politely before turning back to her phone, and my parents start crossing the street.

"Wait, where are you going?" I question, grabbing Mama's wrist as I ask because I really don't want to cross the street and have them make a fool of me.

"To the clothes store... did you not want to go there anymore?" She replies with a confused frown, and I instantly blush when I look back across the street to see that she is now talking on her phone.

Then I look further up to see that the very store she was leaning against is the store I wanted to go in, and there in the window is the hoodie I want oh so very much.

Screw it.

"Oh, I didn't realise we were there yet." I clear my throat and let go of her wrist to cross the street, hoping against hope that they don't embarrass me on the way past... if they can somehow manage it for five seconds.

"Oh! Oh, oh, oh! Y/n, darling, will you take a picture of us near that wall over there? It's such a pretty shade of green and I have a green aesthetic on my Instagram right now." Mama suddenly asks as soon as we're beside Ms Cabello.

Shit.

"Yeah, sure," I mutter and take her phone with a polite smile, hoping they'll just want the one and we can leave. Before I know it though, I've taken at least fifteen and they're still posing together, and some of them each by themselves. Honestly, they're both stunning but must they really act like they're legitimate Instagram models? I've got more followers then both of them combined and I only post like once a month. Almost everyone at school follows me. I don't even really want them to, but when I started making people unfollow me it spread like wildfire and even more followed, so I gave up.

Moving on, I'm now standing frustrated as Mama turns to put a kiss on Mom's cheek. It's cute, I think they should post this one, but then they're switching position again.

"I can get one of all three of you if you want." I hear someone offer and guess who it is.

That's right, the woman who actually could be an Instagram model for all I know.

Shit shit shit shit shiiiiiit.

"Yes! Please do! If you don't mind!" My mom's reply before I have a chance to protest, so I offer the teacher a weak smile before moving to stand beside my parents only to be pulled between them. They each throw an arm around my shoulders and I think that maybe this won't be too bad after all, until I receive a wink from Ms Cabello and turn a furious shade of crimson before she takes a photo.

I'm pretty sure I blinked too.

I bet that's the one they post.

"Thank you so much. We rarely get any photos of this one, never mind with us in them too." Mom grins as she moves to take Mama's phone, referring to me.

"No problem," she nods before side eyeing me as I try to pretend like I wasn't just staring at her, "I know how they can be."

How who can be?

Daughters?

Teenage daughters?

Teenagers in general? That makes the most sense considering she's young and a teacher, but my mind still decides to swim with the other options.

I hear a clearing of a throat and refocus my eyes to see the two women now looking at me confused, Ms Cabello nowhere to be seen.

"Are you alright?" Mama asks and I nod quickly, starting to head back towards the clothes shop.

"That girl said 'I'll see you at school' but you just zoned out... did you make a new friend that we don't know about?" She continues but Mom steps in.

"Or more than a friend?"

"Sure," I mutter, not really thinking straight as I scan my surroundings and catch sight of a white jumpsuit slipping into a store a little way up the street.

It makes my stomach feel like I'm falling, like when you wake up from a nightmare and are hit with the relief of it being just a figment of your imagination, not reality.

I'm.

So.

Screwed.
