STRANDED AT THE COMPOUND

For the last five hours May had let her nephew, Peter Parker, stay at the compound to work with his boss on the project they had dubbed as  'Iron Spider'. When the kid had realized he was supposed to leave by looking at the clock, they noticed the raging storm outside of the building.

The winds were ferocious, the wind cutting through the previously clear skies with no mercy, leaving it impossible for Peter to go back to the small apartment so Stark came up with an idea.

He proposed that Peter stayed there for the night, as long as they called May so she wouldn't panic (that was the last thing either of them wanted). Happy would take him to school the next day, if it was open, seeing as it looked like most of the students may have trouble getting there.

The room that had been set aside for Peter to use when Tony had thought he would become an Avenger was perfect for the teenager to stay in. When nine-thirty came around, Tony saw Peter asleep, slumped in his seat with his head on the desk.

Stark then realized how tired the boy had seemed the last few times he had come to visit and could only hope it wasn't because how hard he pushed himself on the daily patrols. He lifted Peter with ease to carry him to the vacant room and tucked him into the bed.

He switched the light switch off as he left the room and headed back to the lab to, for once, clear away everything they had done to avoid some idiot messing it up. He did not want to have to explain to Pepper why there was another explosion, he'd rather not have to sleep on the couch.

After that job was done, he collapsed onto the sofa in the buildings main living room and his eyes were only stopped from shutting for the night by most of the Avengers walking in. He had completely forgotten they had been staying there and could only hope they had stayed on the top floor.

"Hey, Stark," Steve was leading the group and sat across from the exhausted man "Who the hell was that you were carrying to Spider-Man's room?"

"Uh, would you believe that it was in fact Spider-Man?" Tony's legs were shoved off of the couch by Natasha who chose to sat next to him.

"That kid looks way too young to be him, now tell us the truth." She said, exasperated by the mans antics.

"Fine," Tony decided it wouldn't hurt to tell them only half of the truth "He's my intern, he was staying late to help me out but there's no way he could get home while this storm is going on so now he's staying for the night. It's not like Spider-Man's ever used his room anyway and I'm sure he wouldn't mind." He shrugged and set his feet onto the coffee table in front of him.

"Your intern? Tony, that guy looked like a kid, are you sure he's smart enough?" Steve was concerned Stark was being stupid for hiring someone so young for such an important role.

"Trust me when I say, he is more than smart enough. He cracked the equation me and Bruce have been stuck on for month in under an hour." Tony argued, his words spiking Banners interest.

"It's solved? That means we can finally move onto to stage two of the experiment now that the-" Bruce was beyond excited but before he could finish his sentence a scream could be heard on the floor above them that Stark immediately recognized as Peters.

He stood up, not bothering to explain anything to the others, and sprinted towards the room, threw open the door to find Peter, face in agony and thrashing around in the bed. Tony ran to his side as his eyes opened and comforted the boy close to the chest, rocking him back and forth with him cradled in his arms.

Peter clutched the mans shirt, choking on his own tears, and tried to control his breathing. He focused on Tony's soothing and quiet words.

Neither of them noticed as Natasha crept into the door frame with Steve, Bruce, Wanda and Clint close behind her, all of them with concerned expressions. They may not of known who the kid was or even his name but it didn't take a genius to figure out that Stark deeply cared for him and would go to great lengths to protect him.

The group slowly walked away, not making a single sound as they stepped across the floorboards, to where they had been sitting moments before and stayed in silence until Wanda decided to speak up.

"I have never been so confused in all my life and I've seen you lot play blindfolded hide & seek at one in the morning."
