Where are you, Minari? Please, don't be mad . . .
Jimin tried concentrating on his mobile game but his thoughts kept traveling back to his girlfriend. She was late. She said she'd be here a little earlier but she's late. He'd had even made time to come to the cafe before her because he didn't want her to wait and have perverted guys stare at her unreal, elegant beauty. It was 5:25 pm already when they were actually supposed to meet at 4:50 pm.
He leaned back in his chair and allowed the strong smells of warm coffee and hot chocolate soothe his mind but different scenarios always seem to beat them.
What if something happened to her?
Was she hurt?
Was she in trouble?
Had she fallen down the abandoned construction hole in that old street?
What if she had lost her phone and someone random stranger had read his desperate messages instead?
What if she didn't even know about their meeting? Well, that's a good thing that she might've misplaced her phone, isn't it? She might've never even got to read Tzuyu's message. But what if she did? She didn't even pick up his calls yesterday and didn't reply to his texts. But this morning, she did.
Come on, Mina! Where are you?
A flash of a familiar shade of mint green caught his eye. He tore his gaze from the phone screen and gaped at a boy and a girl across the street from the window. He wasn't sure what to feel about what he was seeing. His heart, beating faster than usual, halted to a complete stop.
Minari . . . His Minari and that guy? Who was he? And what was she doing with him? Had she dumped her date with Jimin just to go out with that boy, or had she totally forgotten about it? Who was he to make her forget that she was going to meet her boyfriend? Was she . . . cheating on him?
No, Jimin! Keep yourself calm. You don't know that guy so don't make any assumptions. Don't over react. You could ruin your and Mina's relationship and you don't want that.
His chair screeched irritatingly on the floor, making a few other customers glance at him in annoyance. Jimin threw an apologizing look at them and ran out of the café, leaving his tea untouched.
He could hear his heart thumping against his chest, wanting to jump out. As he waited along a long line of pedestrians, where he had a clear view of the two, he saw a cup of coffee in her hands along with her phone. No, Minari . . . No!
He wanted to shout, but no assumptions, he told himself again. Why was that signal taking so long? He tried waving at them, wishing that Mina would see his mint green sweater and white woolen cap among the crowd of grey coats and brown hats. It was their special color, mint green. And he had worn the sweater that she had given him during Christmas, hoping that she might might cool up a little when she sees it. If she was even mad. And it was a coincidence that she wore her present too, a mint green cardigan and a white scarf that matched his cap. They looked beautiful on her. Her jet black hair danced magistically in the midst of the sharp wind as it whipped around her in small tornadoes. He would've ran up and kissed her right at the spot between the swirling leaves if the situation wasn't like this.
He waved again, furiously but she didn't see him. Instead she held out her phone to the guy and they started walking away. Jimin was sure they were exchanging numbers which angered him even more. His splintered heart kept asking him if she had actually forgotten all about him. Did she even realize that she was almost forty minutes late?
The flock of people in front him began moving. A lot pushed past him, making him stumble and he lost the sight of the two. But at the last moment, he was lucky enough to see a blob of mint green disappear around the corner of another coffee shop. He ran with all his might and saw them on the other side of the street through the windows.
He finally decided that it was okay now to call her name, but his shouts were carried away by the winds and the droning crowds of people. "Mina!" he tried again and to no avail. "MINARI!"
A passerby shook her head at him, immediately shutting him up. Jimin wanted to throw all these people to the ground and make his way to his Minari, but his brain kept telling him he was still over reacting.
I mean, he argued back, who wouldn't over react if they their girlfriend's drinking coffee with another boy while you're out there waiting for them to show up for your date? He knew that he had every right to panic and that fact was confirmed by what he saw next.
A flaming ball of fire exploded inside Jimin as he waited for them to pull apart from the long hug. Uh, you guys have been clinging onto each other for a while now . . . he wanted to say-- no, actually scream. So mind getting away? One of you has a boyfriend watching. And he's not very happy.
"Chimmy!"
Jimin didn't realize that he was staring at them from behind the electricity pole, looking like a complete stalker. Mina's squeal brought his mind back to the real world while it was actually having fun on planning different ways to murder that guy.
Instead of going to her when he had the chance, he pulled his woolen cap tightly around his head and walked away without acknowledging her, or anyone around him.
