FOR MILES

Millions and millions of tiny grains of sand seemed to consume my feet each time I took a step in front of me. Every step made me cringe as the rough yet oddly smooth against my feet as Lila and I groggily stumbled down the beach in a not so very straight line.

Half a bottle of vodka and about five beers later, Lila and I were undeniably intoxicated, sloshed, wasted, smashed, and plastered.

An hour ago, we were on the sofa, downing drink after drink until Lila had felt okay or well numb to all the unnecessary hurt by Lakyn's harsh words. I decided to be the sensible one in this situation and let Lila get as drunk as she could while I would only get tipsy so that I could look after her if she needed me.

Someone had to be able to make proper decisions or well at least know when things are getting out of hand.

"God, I love you." Lila slurred; her sweaty hand interlinked with mine as we happily strolled down the beach while the soft sound of the waves crashing next to us seemed to soothe us.

A hiccup escaped my mouth which then resulted in me letting out a giggle, "I love you too." I replied a little too enthusiastically.

We had left our temporary beach house around fifteen minutes ago. Neither Hale nor Lakyn had finished having their meltdowns, Hale most likely was calm and just waiting for me to come check on him once Lila had calmed down.

Lakyn on the other hand was probably still furious and far from calming down anytime soon and even if he was calm if any of us were to walk into his room right now, he would most likely heat up within seconds and emotionally hurt whoever came to check on him.

So, Lila and I, being far from sober her more than me, decided to walk out of the house which seemed way to boring and slightly stuffy. We went into our backyard which was pretty much just a path that led out and onto the beach.

And that's how our drunk adventure started.

"I'm hot." Lila whined, using the back of her free hand, that didn't have the half-empty vodka bottle in it, to wipe a thick layer of sweat from her forehead, "So damn hot."

I hummed in response as a cool breeze nipped at my hot skin. "I know you are." I replied with a silly smile on my lips as I uncontrollably laughed at myself. "Too hot for Lakyn. He doesn't deserve you."

"Don't say that." Lila stated rather sadly as she let go of my hand.

Guilt quickly rushed through me as I had realized I had upset her, "I didn't mean that." I replied quickly. "I'm sorry."

Lila shook her head, "It's fine." she insisted, "You have every right to have an opinion, especially considering how he has been acting these past few weeks." She explained as she slightly swung the bottle in her hand beside her, "But he has done so much for me. You do not get to see the good, but I promise you, he is good."

It's true, I don't see every part of their relationship. I hear about the negative things that Lakyn does a lot more than I hear the positive when we hang out, which kind of makes me think that she can do a lot better than him.

But at the same time, you don't stay with someone if they just hurt you all the time, unless it's an abusive and manipulative type of relationship where you feel stuck, so obviously there is a lot better than bad in the relationship. The last few weeks I've seen Lila change, in a good way she seems happier when she is with him, he seems to make her feel better when she is hurting.
