hi children, siblings, and parents of mine!

the title is referencing how they both had wings, but this time, Daedalus is the one to fall.

"Daddy my wings grew in! Can you see! I'm gonna be as great a flyer as you someday!"

"Daddy teach me how to fly! If you don't start young I'll never learn!"

"Dad how do I preen?"

"Dad why are my feathers falling off?"

"Hey Dad wanna nest with me?"

"Dad?"

"He said he'd never leave me during nesting season!"

"Dad where are you I'm scared I'm in my nest and Wilbur went shopping."

"Why are you always out with Uncle Techno?"

"Don't you care about me?"

"I still can't fly. You aren't ever around to teach me."

"If this is what it's going to be like, I don't want these wings."

Tommy sat in his home. He was remembering his past life.

When he was born, he had little useless wings. Tiny copies of Phil's.

According to Wilbur, Phil had been so happy. He'd shouted for joy when Tommy first flexed his wing muscles.

According to Wilbur.

Phil doesn't actually care.

Tommy still doesn't know how to fly.

~~~~~~~~~
It's been years. He hasn't heard from Phil or Technoblade. Wilbur's off helping his son transition, and Tubbo is busy. Niki is working in her bakery. Ranboo is trying to research his heritage.
They are Tommy's new family.
They pet his wings. They help him preen. They leave him alone when he nests, except when he drags them with him and cuddles them to sleep.
They care.
He met a duck hybrid named Quackity, abandoned by his parents, just like Tommy.
Together, the two failed to fly. He thinks they are using the wrong muscles, while Quackity thinks they're using the muscles wrong.
Neither of them know who's right, but they do break their bones almost daily trying to glide, which for some reason is harder than trying to fly.
They laugh together, all of them.
Phil never taught him to laugh like this.
~~~~~~~~~

His wings remind him of Phil.

He doesn't like that.

He looks in the mirror, and he sees Phil, ignoring him.

Phil, saying he's sorry but Uncle Techno needs help.

Phil, asking why he can't fly yet.

Phil, yelling at him because he's jealous of Techno.

Phil, flaunting his wings as he flies away.

Phil.

Phil's wings rest on his back.

Phil doesn't deserve him.

How can he make it better?

~~~~~~~~
Tommy is outside, alone, watching the beautiful night sky.
Wilbur taught him to appreciate the stars.
Quackity taught him constellations.
Niki taught him to dream.
Ranboo taught him cuddles.
Tubbo taught him friendship.
Fundy taught him to be a kid again.
Phil taught him nothing.
He brings the can of red dye splashing down.
~~~~~~~~

He smiles.

They're his wings now.

Not Phil's.

He is not Phil's son.

He is Tommy, the hybrid. Tommy, the kid with overflowing passion, so much that he adores fighting, friendships, cooking, reading, music.

Flying.

Quackity and he had finally figured it out.

Together, they were called the Aerial Arsonists.

Tommy shows his friends and family his new crimson wings.

They compliment him.

"The gray was too bland.."

"..Nobody liked when they were gray.."

"You're so cool looking!"

He smiled one last time, because he wasn't Phil's son anymore.
