Summary: After going to the ball with the girl of his dreams, Fred realized that he should've kissed her

Fred took a look at himself in the mirror as he kept playing the moment inside his head. The moment you agreed to be his date to the ball.

"Hey Y/N! Wait up!" Fred called out, catching up with you.

"Hey Freddie! What's up?" You asked, your heart racing at the mere sight of him.

He nervously ran a hand through his hair, "Do you have a date to the Yule Ball?"

You shook your head, "No. Why?"

He took a deep breath, the nervousness obvious in his eyes, "I was wondering if you would like to be my date?"

You gave him a small smile, "Like? Freddie, I would love to!"

Fred took a deep breath and started pacing the room, trying to convince himself that this wasn't just a dream.

A small knock came from the door, pulling Fred out of his train of thought as his twin poked his head through the door, "Oi Freddie! What're you going to do? Pace there all night? The ball starts in 5 minutes. You wouldn't want the love of your life to think that you stood her up."

He rolled his eyes at George before following him out of the room.

While waiting for his date, Fred couldn't help but run his fingers through his hair as he tried to take his mind off his nerves. Until George nudged him, "There's your girl."

He looked up and his jaw literally dropped at the sight of you. Everything seemed to go in slow motion as you walked down the stairs towards him with a beautiful smile gracing your lips. Fred didn't need to think twice before deciding that you were the prettiest girl at the party.

Nobody could deny that you and Fred had the night of your lives, laughing and dancing the night away.

Fred knew that he should take the chance and ask you to be his and only his. But he let his fear get the best of him and he lost the moment. Letting a million thoughts run through his mind:

Is your heart taken? Was there somebody else on your mind? Was he already out of time? How did you feel about him now?

"I can't believe you let her walk away when you should've kissed her." George said, appearing by Fred's side as the latter finished bidding Y/N goodnight.

"I know." He sighed, shoving his hands into his pockets, knowing in his heart that he should've kissed you.

You were heading to the library with the agenda of returning a book that you had borrowed two weeks ago. But, along the way, you couldn't help but overhear a conversation between a couple of girls.

"I couldn't believe she was the one Fred took to the ball."
"You have to admit, they're a cute couple."

"Oh come on, Fred is way out of her league."

"Who knows? Maybe he just did it to catch someone else's attention. You know, make her jealous."

You took a deep breath, walking past the group as if you didn't hear a thing. But instead of heading to the library like you had planned, you took a little detour to an empty corridor. Trying to keep the tears at bay.

"Princess? What's wrong?" A familiar voice reached your ears, causing you to look up at Fred.

He sat down next to you, immediately pulling you into his chest as he ran his fingers through your hair, "What happened?"

You breathed in his scent in an attempt to calm yourself down, "The guy who I had feelings for might be using me to make another girl jealous."

You didn't know what to expect. You especially didn't expect what happened next.

Your best friend heaved a sigh, "I should've kissed you."

You looked up at him, "What?"

"At the Yule Ball," he started to explain, avoiding your gaze, "I should've kissed you."
You raised a brow at him, your heart racing with every passing minute, "Why?"

The confident demeanor that Fred often carried around seemed to fade at that very moment, "Every morning when I wake up. I always look for you. I see you every time I close my eyes. What am I supposed to do? All of your friends say that I'm punching over my weight. But in my eyes I saw how you're looking at me. It's all that I can think about."

He licked his lips before continuing, "When you stood there, just a heartbeat away. When we were dancing and you looked up at me. If I could replay I would never have let you go. Just tell me, am I out of time?"

The two of you sat in silence before you leaned forward and pressed your lips together, "You're right on time."
