Chapter 54: Serendipity

1st of November 2071, Daegu

Gahyeon moved the curtains on the side in her mother's bedroom.

'You know the snow fell yesterday?' she chirped. 'It's so clean and bright outside... It's insane. Nobody expected that! It was really warm outside...'

She brought the bowl with warm water and sat next to bed.

'The weather got crazy suddenly at night. It was snowing and then the crazy wind came... It's calm now and the snow is melting fast, but if you want to go outside we can call boys...'

Handong had good and bad days.

During good days she was slowly speaking a few words and reacted to naughty bunch bickering.

During bad days she was silent. Close in her sad mind.

'I remember when you were doing this for me. You were mean!!! You were tickling all the time!'

She smiled when Gahyeon removed the shirt of the pajama, leaving her only in a thin shirt.

Gahyeon took the sponge and gave a bedbath to Handong's upper body. She was gently washing her skin near the device and Handong was looking at it.

'Device...' she whispered.

'I know... I'm sorry we can't remove it.' Gahyeon sighed. 'Sometimes I wonder what is on your mind about Kyung, CHorong and Taeil... I still can't believe they did that to us... What if we would accidently leave the mapped space?! They really want to kill us...'

'Gahy...' Handong said with a bit of irritation in her voice. 'Device...'

'I know! It's unbelievable! They want to blow us up in the air!' Gahyeon clenched her teeth. 'Sometimes I just want to insert it into Taeil's ass and make it explode! Can you believe what they did to Jungkook and Yoongi? We are nothing but useful pieces of trash to them!'

Handong slowly moved her hand. She was fighting with her mind constantly to not be swallowed by the darkness again. And she was doing this only for her kids.

She finally grabbed Gahyeon's wrist. Her grip was especially strong...

Gahyeon looked at her surprised.

'Devices... Defect... Prototypes...' Handong said with a determined voice.

'What?! What defect?!' Gahyeon widened her eyes.

Handong opened her mouth, but her sick soul made her body sick as well. She was weak and easily lost focus. When she couldn't focus on the word, she was looking intensely at Gahyeon.

'Wait!? How do you know about them?' Gahyeon frowned. Then she gasped. She brought her face closer to the metal dot on her mother's skin with a red diode in between. On the side there were tiny letters MINC carved.

'Min Inc... We made it?! The corporation?'

Handong sighed with relief and smiled slightly at her.

'When?' Gahyeon asked, thinking fast. Handong lifted her eyebrow. 'Let me think.... If you know about them...' she started to pace around the room, ruffling her hair. 'It had to be before the accident.'

Handong nodded.

'So dad knew about it too..' Gahyeon concluded. 'The branch, which was responsible for military contracts... We closed it after his death...'

Handong looked at her with empty eyes again. Gahyeon blinked, seeing her sad again.

'Oh, mom... I'm sorry...' she whispered and went to finish dressing her up. 'I will figure this out.' she promised, quietly. 'Boys will come soon to entertain you...'
