Bakugo sucked his teeth and crossed his arms as best he could with the one large gauntlet weighing down his left arm. Annoyed with the whole situation he turned away from the bound pair of Kirishima and Tetsutetsu to join the rest of the aspiring Heros preparing for the group photo. He just wanted to have a little fun with Metal Mouth and maybe stick up for his (best friend) (close companion) squad mate at the same time. Dumbass just HAD to go and ruin it by attacking his Bunny. Asshole was lucky to still have his stupid pointed teeth.
The look of confusion and concern etched into Red Riots face at his best friend's reaction to the situation went unnoticed by all.
Ejiro knew how close partners could be. All those extra hours of training together, how could they not? Tetsu was more than just a good friend to him. He was almost like a real brother. While the redhead WAS close to all the members of his class, especially his friend squad, it just wasn't the same as what he had with his fellow sharp toothed teen. The bond he had built with the silver-haired male was simply put: deeper. It was deeper than that which he shared with Denki, Hanta or Kyouka. Even Mina. But somewhere not so deep in his heart he thought his bond with Katsuki was an exceptionally strong one. Maybe on par with or even stronger than that with his metal brained counterpart. Seeing how easily Izuku could diffuse the beautiful fiery blonde reminded him that the 'Wonder Duo' was a whole nother level.
And it hurt.
By now everyone knew the artificial redhead had feelings beyond that of a good friend for his fellow ruby-eyed classmate. He was so bad at concealing his growing attachment to his squad leader that most believed the boy himself could not possibly be unaware. As intelligent and observant as Bakugo is, it was just not possible. And small gestures proved they were right.
Turning his body just enough so Kirishima couldn't quite wrap his arm fully around the blonde's shoulders. Not attending game night if the hardening teen was the one hosting in his dorm room. Only being alone together if they were in public areas like the commons or the kitchen. True, the two still spent plenty of time together with their squad but there was a kind of barrier forever present between them these days. One the more sensitive of the two had begun to pick up on. Ejiro had started to feel almost abandoned in the wake of having his affections all but ignored by his best friend turned crush.
Despite seemingly being aware, the explosive youth had never once directly acknowledged his shark toothed friend's feelings. Not to accept and not to reject. Admittedly, not being outright rejected and scorned was a great relief but not being acknowledged at all was painful. Especially when the redhead could see how special the boy he admired and longed for had been treating his one time victim over the last six months.
Midoriya and Bakugo were at such odds when school first started last year. Izuku confided the pair's background story to everyone in class last year during a movie night the blonde had, as usual, elected not to attend. After that the animosity between them at least made sense. Though to be truthful, the lack of reasoning behind the more aggressive youth's change from childhood friend to tormentor never sat right with most.
However, nothing ever stays the same and the universe often likes to change things up.
Following Dynamight's kidnapping and All Might's forced retirement the feisty teen seemed to go through some kind of personal crisis. Noone was sure of the exact trigger for change but the results were undeniable. It hurt Kirishima somewhat to know it was Katsuki's broken relationship with the greenette and NOT the blonde's friendship with the sharp toothed youth that helped him through the aftermath. But, the kind hearted redhead understood that even if it was not ideal the two WERE the most familiar with one another. It would have been logical that the very private Blasty would not want others seeing him at such a low point.
The announcement that the two would be paired up as Pros to make what they themselves called the 'Wonder Duo' was, however, surprising. At the time the hardening quirk user had been happy his friend found a solid path towards his goal of becoming number one. Though it did sting a bit. Why couldn't HE pair with the explosive youth? His quirk was the perfect compliment to have in a partner, wasn't it?
"We need to talk after this is over. Meet me at our usual spot?" As Shinso's capture weapon was released the two previously irritated partners released their quirks. Tetsutetsu's voice was quiet as they made their way towards the photographer. Abandoning his earlier irritation he tried his best to whisper to his partner. The silver haired youth tried NOT to show his concern, lest those around them might notice. He knew his partner's situation was delicate.
Nodding and moving to wipe his face in order to refocus, the recipient of Tetsu's worry was shocked to find his palm damp. Wide eyed he looked to his counterpart with even more confusion. The scarlet-eyed teen hadn't noticed he was silently crying as he watched his best friend walk away chased by their smaller freckled classmate.
"We'll talk later. You're gonna want some privacy for this one." Sage is not a word one would typically associate with the onyx-eyed boy but it would be accurate at the moment at least.
The remainder of the afternoon went relatively smoothly with pictures of each class separately and both classes together. After that there were a few shots of different groups to show the friendly atmosphere of the school and lastly was the individual quirk photos.
Monama ended up doing several images that would be collaged together to show him copying several different quirks. Kodai also would have a collage to show her manipulating the size of various objects. Hagakure originally planned to show her stealth abilities in some way but could not figure out an effective way to do it. In the end the kind photographer managed to come up with an idea that showcased her light refraction and her invisibility brilliantly. Shinso simply looked menacing with his capture weapon extended. His shots were basically replications of Mr. Aizawa's promo images so people would be able to associate the two together. If they knew who Eraserhead was at least.
Only four students had trouble with the quirk pictures. The petite pink-haired professional kept retaking image after image of Kuroiro and Tokoyami to best capture their darker quirks in a way that made them look heroic and not more, as she put it, 'thing of nightmares'-ish.
But the boys were not her biggest issue. The real trouble came from one very expected and one rather surprising source.
Bakugo looking decidedly villainous as he displayed small explosions in his palms was of no shock to any in his class. It took almost twenty minutes but after a few (flat out rejected) respectfully taken suggestions from the pinkette she was finally pleased. T
The surprise for everyone came in the form of the class 2A's other scarlet eyed boy. Getting a fully hardened Kirishima to not look like he was about to murder everyone in sight was a challenge that caught everyone off guard.
The redhead seemed fine until his best friend had to be, again, calmed down and convinced to take direction from the small female by none other than Deku. He had TRIED to help his squad leader see reason, as did the rest of the Baku-Squad, but only the curly haired youth was successful. It was the final hit that broke Ejiro's resolve to not be jealous. Something snapped in the usually optimistic and upbeat Red Riots mind and he was mad. Katsuki level mad.
It was a very unfamiliar feeling for the typically easy going youth. After half an hour with no success and many grumbles from most of the now very bored students, the photographer agreed to return the next day to shoot only his pictures. He was clearly not able to do them now, and the longer she tried the more annoyed and menacing he was becoming.
The rest of his squad as well as his partner tried their best to reassure him that it was no big deal while also attempting to unravel the mystery of his noteworthy bad mood. They had a unified unspoken hunch but none wanted to say anything with their blonde leader standing amongst them.
For a moment it looked like it was working and the ruby-haired boy appeared to start to somewhat relax until the tiny camera quirk user requested Dynamight and Deku for one more shot before she left. When the three disappeared around the corner and out of sight the freshly borderline enraged redhead stormed off followed by Kaminari, Sero, and Tetsutetsu. The girls stayed behind to discuss their own theories of how the situation could possibly be diffused.
Preferably without casualties.
