The first two weeks of staying full time at their chosen agencies for senior internships went relatively well for most of the Hero course students of UA. Some were assigned to be more 'in office' while others were sent into the field right away but all in all the work experiences for their final year were off to a great start.
At Might Tower Flurry and Deku went on patrols nearly every day at the greenette's request. At first the experienced female Pro was concerned for her young charge as he refused to take practically any time to relax, even requesting to go out with Mr. Ghast a few times when Aoi was off duty. Specter sat him down on day three and explained that he was in fact NOT required to be active 100% of the time outside of his UA virtual lessons but the emerald-eyed teen had swayed the stoic man with a convincing argument.
The freckle-faced trainee felt he had caused everyone so much trouble when he disappeared that he needed to show his future colleagues that he was taking this internship seriously. He also expressed concern over being behind in terms of experience since he didn't get to complete the internships last year. As he put it, the upcoming Hero also felt disadvantaged considering he wasn't at full capacity for nearly half of the time he WAS working. Izuku was determined to make as much growth in his limited time with the Pros of the agency as possible now.
So, when he was not on active duty he was helping around the office or training, Izuku's school work was often completed first thing in the morning before the sun rose. To those that knew him well enough, this 'up before the sun' Deku was the biggest change since the teen's bout with Darkside. That and the occasional muttered curse.
Specter nearly passed out the first time he heard an f-bomb come from the little Green Bean.
Previously, the boy was well known to NOT be a morning person. Some days he could even rival his fiery partner in terms of temper and attitude before ten. Or maybe that was the portals. But now? The boy was up by four every day and could be found in the common office space in the main lobby working on school assignments or in the gym training alone. By the end of the first full week it was clear to everyone that arguing with the curly haired youth was pointless so they left him to embrace his overachieving nature. He wasn't slacking in patrols, wasn't zoning out in meetings, hadn't missed any classes or assignments, didn't even miss any of his extra online language classes. Not that he would tell anyone what language it actually was.
He was the little ball of sunshine everyone knew him to be before the attack just with a noticeable increase in confidence and assertiveness. Overall they had nothing to complain about and therefore nothing to worry about. Right?
Meanwhile, over at Jeanist Offices Bakugo's first week had gone by in a similar fashion. The Twin Volcanoes often worked together but had days they were paired with someone else so that there was always at least one on duty while the other took a break. The blonde quickly learned that the brother and sister shared an apartment and NOT being left home alone together for very long was a key part of them getting along peaceably at work. Like most siblings, they bickered and picked at each other for no reason other than to see their twin squirm, but that privilege was reserved for them alone.
One evening Katsuki had absentmindedly told Ash to fuck right off when he was being particularly persistent in trying to get the ruby-eyed teen to watch a movie rather than going to the gym. The holy wrath Pyroclastic rained down on him for that actually had him avoiding her for a whole day afterward. The explosive youth learned Ash's given name was Daisuke though he preferred to be called Dai and his sister's name was Emiko. She did not like people shortening her name. Not at all. Dynamight could deal with each of them individually but together they were a handful.
Dai was easy going and skilled. He actually reminded Bakugo of Eijiro quite a lot on more than one occasion. Emiko on the other hand was like a mix of Deku and Shinso. Crazy smart, stupid strong, and often quiet but when she was interested in something she would not. Shut. Up.
All in all it could have been a lot worse. His meeting with Best Jeanist on his first day actually ended in a hug and the man seemed genuinely pleased the ruby-eyed teen had returned. While the taller blonde would not be working directly with Dynamight most days, Hakamada made it clear that he would be checking in and had great expectations for the feisty teen. The almost fatherly attention was rebuffed on the outside but on the inside it warmed the young intern's heart. Being someone who successfully hid most of his emotions behind anger for the majority of his life rather than dealing with them, the kindness and acceptance of the seasoned Pro really made an impact on Bakugo.
More than most of the people who actually knew the Office intern easily recognized the subtle changes in the youth like not screaming all the time. The attack by Darkside seemed to have opened the metaphorical floodgates and led to the realization that if Katsuki wanted healthy interpersonal relationships he needed to sort his shit out.
And he did. No matter how much he claimed the contrary, the explosion quirk user wanted to have close friends he could rely on. He wanted good relationships with his colleagues and classmates. He wanted to love someone and be loved. Yes he was a teenage boy and had certain urges, but that could be handled alone. Hehe: hand-eld. Yup, horny was an understatement but the recently turned eighteen year old had come to learn when Deku went missing that he wanted far more from the greenette than just his body. But regardless of what he might want, that road was now a dead end.
They were not a couple anymore. That was something they shouldn't rekindle as they needed to focus on their careers. Maybe, MAYBE, one day in the future if they had their shit handled and were both still interested. But not now.
When the first two weeks of class 3A and 3B''s internships ended, each classmate was escorted back to campus from their agency by their supervisor. As they all slowly began arriving on campus most students took their bags up to their dorms while their liaisons milled around talking in the commons. Many Pro's know each other either from cross agency operations or just from the intricacies of life and the banter filling the space was good-natured and jovial. From now on the trainee Heros would be unescorted to and from their assignments so this was the last time this particular crowd would be together like this. It was Saturday morning and moving forward students could return any time they chose over the weekend as long as they were present for class on Monday. They just needed to inform their homeroom teacher and supervisor of their plan ahead of time.
Principle Nezu was adamant about students and their hosting agencies being as flexible as possible with the arrival and departure days. The overly intelligent anthropomorphized rodent man's goal was to make it so that each internship could be maximized to fit every student's specific situation. Providing students with a window of time for departure and arrival over transition weekends worked so much better than a specific day and time. Even if it made a little extra work for Aizawa and Kan with tracking their students' travel plans.
If students were planning to spend minimal time away at their assignments so they had more down time in between, they could leave for their agency as late as Monday morning and return to school as early as Friday evening the following week. That would provide them with 2 full break days between work and school. If they chose the opposite, and wanted to spend the max time on assignment to maximize their experience that week they could leave for their assignment Friday after classes and return to school as late as Monday morning. It all depended on the trains and the flexibility of the arrangement made both parents and students quite pleased.
As the morning became afternoon most of the Pro's departed with only a few sticking around for a surprisingly intense Rocket League tournament. Sero was wiping the floor with everyone but Flurry was up next and the determination in her eyes had Deku warning the tape quirk user of his impending doom.
Chuckling slightly at the offhanded dismissal of his attempt to save the raven haired boy from embarrassment, Midoriya headed to the stairs. He had enough socializing for now. It was still hard for him to be around everyone without darker thoughts slipping past his rebuilt walls of self confidence so when he felt them start creeping in it always helped to gain some alone time with his headphones. Though his music of choice had taken something of a different direction these days. Thankfully.
