The game was pretty much over after the bomb the 'Wonder Duo' dropped, so everyone made for their rooms except the newly discovered couple along with Jiro and Kaminari. "I can't believe we missed all the signs. It should have been so obvious. Damn you two. Eight months? So not too long after you got taken by the LOV last year?"
"Yeah. More or less I guess. I'm sorry Jiro! We didn't want to lie to everyone but it's just-"
"No, I get it. It's private. Plus with you two planning to go Pro together as a pair, if things go south in your personal relationship it could affect your partnership." The purple haired girl's words reminded her squad leader that she was indeed the other half of their brain trust.
"We know how to be professional damnit. Elsa doesn't even know and we have to be with her annoying ass every time we report. We started our training before we even fully reconciled and well before any of... THIS. We'll be fine."
"Thank you for worrying about us though! You guys are such great friends!" Throwing an arm over Izuku's shoulder the feisty blonde nodded towards the hallway.
"I don't know about you losers but I'm beat. I'm going to bed." Taking a few steps and steering his shorter companion along with him, Blasty was stopped mid stride by the other blonde still in the room.
"Wait, I know just about everyone ended up trading roommates when we got here. Who did you each end up with?" Hands on hips, Kaminari squinted his eyes with suspicion. Soon his citrine orbs grew wide as Midoriya's blush became more prominent. "You're rooming with each other?!?"
Reaching in front and waving his hands in defense, the panic in the greenette's face was rather amusing to the other three. "Shhhh! Kami! We didn't do it, ok? Like you said, everybody was switching and in the end we ended up together is all. It was all a coincidence. I promise!"
"So the shower incident was the two of you, wasn't it?" Kyoka's focused but neutral eyes widened as dusted freckles became concealed behind furious blushing and took note of Katsuki's red tipped ears.
"Hey look at that! Strawberry form Deku makes an appearance. Welp. That answers that." Denki's grin was both endearing and infuriating to both its recipients.
"Just remember they have thin walls here you guys. We all do NOT need to know what you get up to at night. Come on idiot." Dragging the still shocked boy behind her, the short haired female made her way down the hall and out of sight.
"Well that was awkward. But I'm kind of glad it's out in the open now. At least with our friends. How do you feel about everything tonight Kacchan?"
Turning the emerald-eyed youth to face himself fully, Katsuki rested their foreheads together as he took a surprisingly shaky breath. "What if it's too much for Ei?" Eyes closed, the true concern in his voice was heartbreaking to the smaller boy.
"He may need time, but he loves you. He's your best friend and something like this will not stop that. He wants you to be happy just as much as you want it for him. You two both just need time. Like me and Ura. I know she'll need some space but in the end we'll be as solid as ever. I'm sure of it." I have to be. I can't bear to think of us losing them. Smiling softly, the freckled youth hugged his secretly vulnerable boyfriend tightly. "Come on. Let's go. It's well past your bedtime old man."
"Asshole." There was no malice in the word, only endearment. The pair soon cuddled up in a single bed and quickly fell asleep. It was an emotionally draining night and both were glad it was over.
The next morning found the class quietly eating an over-the-top traditional breakfast and while the atmosphere was not uncomfortable, it was far more subdued than usual. Once everyone had eaten their fill they all decided to visit the springs together. Well, in their gender appropriate oosl at least. Shoji was elected to keep an eye on Mineta. Literally.
An hour later everyone was enjoying the warm and soothing waters with the exception of one small pop-off quirk user who was in a tape cocoon having already been caught trying to spy on the girls. TWICE.
See? Sero is super helpful.
The pool was large enough to allow all the boys to relax and have their own space which was a good thing as everyone noticed Kirishima cautiously move closer to his best friend. Sensing the two needed some privacy Midoriya moved to sit with Ida and Todoroki while Sero and Kaminari joined Shoji and Ojiro in taunting their bound classmate. Everyone else made sure to engage in small talk leaving no one to focus on the awkward pair.
"Hey Bakubro, could we talk?" It was unusual for the outgoing redhead to be so subdued but given recent events it was not entirely unexpected. A quiet nod showed the other was ready to listen as the false redhead took a seat on the sunken ledge. After taking a fortifying breath he began to make repairs to their cracked relationship. "I'm sorry man."
"The fuck?"
"Wait, let me get this out first. Ok? It hurts. A lot. I won't lie. I can't say I'm not disappointed how things have turned out, but that's not the hurtful part. I really thought we were best bros, ya know? You had this huge secret all year, longer even, but you never told me. It's like you don't trust me. I guess I always thought that despite your harsh attitude you at least felt safe enough to be able to confide in me. If it was something else and you only told Midoriya I could kind of understand. You two have known each other for your whole lives AND you're partners so that would be almost expected. It would have been hella weird early on last year, but not now." Looking down at his concealed lap, the defeated look on Kirishima's face tugged at his companion's heart.
"It's not like that dumbass. This wasn't my decision alone to make and like you said, we're partners. You should know with that damn Tin Can of yours. Your partner is both a strength and a vulnerability. As much as I fucking hate to admit it, that damn Nerd is definitely my fucking weakness." Holding up an explosive palm, the blonde stopped his friend from speaking before he made an additional declaration. "Listen, cause I ain't gonna repeat this shit. YOU are another one. If any fuckers wanted to really mess with me they would just need to go through one of you two. I guess I wouldn't exactly have a party if something happened to anybody else in our shitty class but you two are different. Look at it like this Shitty Hair: if it was you and not Deku, with the same history the two of us have, would you want that shit getting out to everybody?"
After a few moments in serious thought the dejected youth nodded in understanding. "I think I get it Bro. Thanks for opening up about this with me, I know emotions are not exactly your strongest point."
"Die!" The small explosion sent towards Eijiro's face was deflected as he activated his quirk just in time with practiced ease. Without warning to their confused fellow males, the two began a friendly game of 'drowning' as each attempted to force the other's head under the hot water. The heavy atmosphere on the boy's side of the springs dissolved immediately as shouts of support for one or the other filled the air. Coming to his boyfriend's defense did not work in Izuku's favor as both wrestling boys turned on him and started chasing him around the pool to the cheers of the others. Todoroki's attempts to help resulted in him being dragged into the fray and soon everyone was doing their best to end at least one of their classmates. Except Ida and Mineta.
Minaru was still wrapped up and voicing his disgruntlement. Tenya was practically fuming from the ears while he called for a cessation of such childish behavior as the group represented the prestigious UA High. It was a miracle he didn't get tennis elbow from all the arm chops he did in such a short time.
Meanwhile, on the girl's side of the springs, everyone was doing their best to console a very sad brunette who was in turn doing her utmost to force a smile to her round face. "At least you two can still be best friends! I know it hurts that he doesn't feel the same way but it's better than having no relationship at all, right?"
"I know you're right Momo, but it just makes no sense. Why Bakugo? I know they decided to train to be partners, but that's confusing too. Just why? I thought he hated Deku, so how could they be together like that?" Dropping her face into her hands Uraraka barely held back her tears as she listened to the boys having a great time.
"You think if we could pick who we liked I would choose Denki's dumbass? You just like who you like. That's probably at least part of why they didn't tell anyone. They knew how people would react, and I'm sure Midoriya didn't want to hurt YOU of all people. He loves you. Maybe not the way you want him to but it's obvious he cares for you a lot." The smile Jiro offered her friend was heartfelt.
"Thanks guys." It would take time for sure, but she would be ok one day.
