"Sweetie, take a break, you've been on there all day, it's Sunday, have some friends over go to the movies, do something else, you didn't even stop for breakfast" Carla says standing at my doorframe
"No, I'm okay, I'll have time to hang out with my friends when I finish"
"Well at least take a break, I don't want you to strain your eyes"
"I'll be fine Carla"
"Lunch is ready come on"
I get out of bed with my laptop in hand and start walking out
"No, laptop stays in the room"
"I'm taking a test, I can't close it, it's timed"
Carla sighs "fine, but as soon as you're done with that test you're taking a break"
"Fine" I lie knowing I won't obey

"Kassandra, why are you still up it's three in the morning"
"Why are you up?"
"Cause I got up to get water and I saw your light on, are you still doing homework?"
"Yeah, turns out some of the assignments were easy so now I only need 5 more assignments and two tests, if I stay up I can-"
"Give me the laptop Kas"
"No"
"Kas you need sleep, you have time, give me your laptop"
"No, I'm almost finished"
"Kassie you're overworking yourself, go to sleep, you can continue tomorrow"
"No carla, I need to fini-" I say but Carla closes my laptop and takes it
"You'll get it back tomorrow"
"You can't ground me for wanting to do my homework"
"I'm not grounding you sweetie, your overworking yourself" she says walking away "goodnight" she says turning the light off
Fine, I can do my homework on my phone
It'll be harder, but I won't fall behind too much
I finish the rest of my assignments by 7 am, it was easy since I'd finished all the longer assignments like essays and now I just had to finish my last two exams which I couldn't do on my phone
I walk over to my parents room and knock on the door
"Kas, it's 7am, why are you up?" Dad asks opening the door, he's getting ready for work and Carla's still in bed asleep as she doesn't go in until later today
"Carla took my laptop, I need it to do homework", I say pointing to my laptop on the nightstand next to Carla's side of the bed
"Why'd she take it?" Dad asks
"Cause I was up late" I sigh
"Don't let it happen again" he says handing me my computer
"I won't" I say going into my room
