Rachel's p/v
Darry chugged his coffee; didn't even put his mug in the sink. He's avoiding me like I'm the plague. I really thought my subtle hints from last night were going to hit him like a wave. My earbuds are going to cry with me during this painful car ride. Will it be Complete Mess by 5 Seconds of Summer or You're Somebody Else by Flora Cash. I need my boys right now so, YOU MAKE ME A COMPLETE MESS.

Darry's p/v
"Thanks for the ride." Rachel mumbles as she exists the car. She closes the door. It wasn't a slam, but I could clearly see the annoyance in her face. What am I doing wrong? I ask her why she's upset but she just pushes me away. How am I supposed to gain her trust back if she won't even let me try.

Shit, Rachel wanted to talk to me about something. What if it was about why she's sad? But me asking her my first question first should've made her comfortable. It was the perfect opportunity for her to open up. There will be others. I'm not giving up.

"What were you going to say."
Hector buckles up. "Good morning to you too."
"Was it about Rachel's mood? Did she tell you she's upset?"
"Uhhh, I don't know what you're talking about."
"Yesterday during lunch you were going to tell me something you overheard from Rachel. What was it?"
"I said that? What stopped me from saying that?"
"Don't play dumb with me. Is it so bad that you backed out on telling me?"
"I think you're playing dumb with me, Darry. I seriously don't remember saying that."
"So what, I made it up?"
"It's a possibility-"
"Hector! What did you overhear?"
He closes his eyes. I brake hard causing him to jump. The car behind me beeps.
"HEY! You want to get us killed?"
"Tell me or else I'll brake check them again."
"I have dementia, Darry. Give me an hour and I'll have an answer from you."
"What she said must be really bad. Did she talk bad about me?"
"You're just going to have to hear it at the right time, buddy."
I sigh. "So she did talk bad about me."
"Didn't say-"
"But you implied it. Rachel is never going to forgive me for being an ass."
"You need to actually apologize, Darry. She told you what she needed you to hear. Now it's your turn to make her hear what she needs to hear."
"Ok, I'll do that. I'm going to call in sick and drive her home from dance myself."
"Now we're talking! Alright, we just have to make sure that nothing gets in the way-"

The car next to me cuts me off and brake checks me. I slam on my breaks.
"This fucking close to hitting that car. This fucking close!"
"Hate to say it, but that's karma."
"Whose side are you on?"
"The side that didn't try to kill me earlier!"
I shake my head. You think you know a guy.

Rachel's p/v
"Oh-oh, Rachel looks like a lost puppy again. Who do I need to argue with?"
"My dumb brother who hates me."
Declan sighs. "He doesn't hate you, Rach. What if he thought you were lying to him? People who aren't ok say 'they're ok'."
"But wasn't the smile on my face enough? And me repeating that him and I are ok too? Even then he didn't remember that I had something to tell him too."
"Maybe he felt pushed away. This is just miscommunication-"

The teacher clears her throat. I go back to typing on my calculator. Declan places a piece of paper on my desk.
Ask to go to the bathroom, I'm going to do the same but 5 minutes after you

I shake my head at Declan. He scribbles something on another piece of paper and then hands it to me.
I will drag Tyler out of theater practice to get a smile on your face. Come with me or else I'll make him step foot in this class

As much as I want to see my angel, he needs to focus on the play. Maybe some fresh air will do me good. Seriously hope Mary doesn't suspect of anything. I don't want her to be in the middle of this.
