give me love like her,
lately I've been waking up alone

give me love like never before, cause lately I've been craving more

"He's in more pain than yesterday." Denise mumbled.

"What's his temperature?" I asked.

"101.2." She answered.

"Is the medicine working or not?" I inquired.

"It's working, or he would've already... passed." She replied.

"How do we get the infection out?" I asked.

"We need more antibiotics. Can you and Daryl go get more? Get any kind you see." She replied.

"Yeah." Daryl chimed in.

"What if something happens?" I questioned.

"I won't let it." She replied.

I nodded before walking upstairs.

"Me and Daryl are heading out to get more meds." I told Rick, briefly sitting down beside him.

"Be careful." He mumbled.

I nodded before pressing my lips to his.

"We will." I replied, pulling away.

"I love you," He replied, his lips twitching into a smile.

"I love you." I replied, half smiling.

We still weren't like we used to be, but I'm okay with what we are.

-

"I'm not sure what I'd do if he died." I mumbled.

"Stop thinkin' that way." Daryl replied.

"It's hard not to when he's laying there half dead." I replied.

As we were driving down the empty interstate, Denise's voice rang through the walkie talkie.

"Sam, you there?" She asked.

"Yeah. What's wrong?" I asked.

"Where are you?" She inquired.

"Almost to the hospital. We're probably about two more hours away." I answered.

"Don't go any further." She replied.

"What? Why?" I asked.

"We don't need the medicine." She replied, her voice cracking.

"Why?" I interrogated.

"He-uh, he d-didn't make it." She answered.

I froze, the information not getting through to me.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"His fever skyrocketed, and there was no way to get it down. We tried everything." She replied.

I dropped the walkie-talkie; hearing complete silence.

Daryl picked up the walkie talkie which was laying by my feet before turning the truck off.
