Night

Jace POV

I look beside me at a beautiful clary fast asleep. I need to talk to autumn. I quietly get out of the bed and sneak out to the balcony.

With one last look at clary still asleep, I jump off the balcony. I land on my feet on the ground and shift into a horse. I walk over to the ring where autumn is tied to a pole and sleeping.

"Autumn" I whisper. Nothing. "Autumn," I say louder. Her eyes open and she looks up at me. "Who are you," she asks. Autumn has a soft voice. "I'm Jace. Your owner clary's husband. I was in that ring when she fell from you" I tell her. "So that's your name. What do you want" she asks me? I hear her stomach growl.

"Why did you let clary fall," I ask. "I didn't mean for her to fall. I thought she was holding on tight enough. I was doing everything right. I really like her and don't want to hurt clary. She is kind to me" autumn answers. "Yes, clary is very kind sometimes. That is one of the things I love about her. She begged me not to hurt or do something to you after her fall. I never listened. I'm sorry autumn. She told me it was an accident, that fall. I was just so worried about her" I apologize to the horse. "Is clary okay?" she asks. "Yes, she is fine" I reassure her. "Good" autumn says.

I rest my head against her neck and rub on it. "I'm sorry, for being harsh on you. I can go get your food" I tell her. "I'm alright. I will last until breakfast if it ever comes. I am a little hungry but I don't want to get in trouble" she says. "You're sure," I ask. "Yes, go on back to clary. It is still dark out and if you don't mind I would like to go back to sleep" she tells me. "Alright. Goodnight autumn" I wish her before walking back to the castle.

When I get to the tower I shift back to my normal form. I fly up to the balcony and sneak into the bed beside clary.

"Daddy" I hear grace yell. I get out of bed and leave our room. The guards are starting to go down the stairs to her room to make sure she's okay. "Stop. I'm going to see her" I tell them. They go back to guarding my room.

I go down to graces room and open the door. "What's wrong baby," I ask her. "Daddy," she says and hugs me. I hug her back. "Shh... it's okay baby, I've got you" I tell her. She lets me go and looks at me. I turn the witch light on so I can see her better. "What's wrong Grace," I ask. "I'm scared Daddy," she says. "Why are you scared," I ask. "I had a nightmare. A bear ate mommy and someone put Braxton in sleep-like sleeping beauty and you turned into a mushroom and everyone else was gone" she tells me. I do my best not to laugh but she looks terrified. "It's okay Grace. We are all okay. Now, why don't you go back to sleep" I tell her? "No daddy. I'm scared" she says holding tightly on to me again. "You want to come to sleep with me and your mommy," I ask her. She nods. "Okay, come on baby," I tell her getting off the twin bed. "Carry me," she asks. I pick her up and turn off the witch light.

I carry her up to mine and clary's room. I set her down beside clary and she climbs under the covers. I get in beside her and kiss her forehead. "You are safe princess. Go to sleep now" I tell her. She snuggles up against me and falls asleep.
