IN THE MORNING

KARTIK'S POV

All of us were sitting in the living room. The kids were sitting on the sofa in front of us. I and Naira were sitting on chairs facing them. They were looking at us. We were looking at them. Oreo was sleeping on the couch with his legs up in deep sleep.

Yesterday's night was tiring for him....

There was utter silence. I coughed and began coughing because of the awkward situation. The kids looked at me.

"Kartik", Naira handed me a glass of water.

"Thank you", I said holding the glass and taking a sip of water. My cough stopped and we continued the staring game.

"Oh come on, are we gonna sit the whole day like this? Come to the point guys", Siya said frustrated.

I and Naira looked at each other and nodded. We held each other's hands and I did the honours.

"So kids....I just want your permission.  We.... just want your permission", I said and they looked at me surprised.

"Siya....this is an iconic moment. Dad wants our permission!", Ahana exclaimed in excitement and Siya looked at us suspiciously.

"Permission?", she raised her eyebrow.

"Yeah....permission. Moreover your consent to do "things".....", I spoke and she narrowed her eyes at me.

"Guys are we playing something like role reversal....please tell me because this stuff is boring. And that man isn't my dad....my dad never asks for "our" permission. Who are you mister? Where's my dad? What did you do to him? Why are you wearing his clothes? Mommy....do you have any idea where's my dad and your husband?", Ahana walked towards me and caught my collar.

"I'm your dad sweetheart...I'm your daddy!!", I tried to explain her.

"Proof ?", she asked holding my collar and looking at me.

"Wait....are we supposed to do paternity test here? I'm your dad guys. I just wanted your permission because I care for you......we care for you", I explained them and looked at Naira.

"And we won't do anything without your permission...we won't do anything that troubles you guys", Naira continued and I nodded looking at them. The kids continued to look at us confused.

"Zara short mein niptao na
Oh seedhe point pe aao na.."

We heard a ringtone. We turned towards the door to look at Pammi Aunty.

"Hello guys....", she waved at us. We waved back at her.

"One minute its your uncle's call", she said and received the call.

"Yes Param Ji......no....no.....no no no....no....no.....I said no! Good...", she said for the last time and ended the call. She chuckled foolishly and looked at us.

"Kittu....Naira.....did you guys decide you're gonna go to the honeymoon or not?", Pammi Aunty asked looking at us and just then she noticed the conference going on.

"Okay....", she said nodding her head and analysing things and sat on the couch with Oreo on her lap. That dog was still sleeping.

"Okay so you guys want our permission to go to the honeymoon?", Siya asked us.

"Yeah...", I and Naira said in unison.

Siya scoffed playfully and looked at us.

"Are you guys nuts?", she asked us laughing.
