chapter 25: inexplicable jealousy

"Good afternoon, everyone!"

"Oh-" Shuhua waved at Jieun with a bright smile. "Jieun-unnie, you're here!"

Jieun nodded. "Shuhua-ya, we meet again."

"Unnie, you better hurry up-" Shuhua gestured towards Jungkook with a smirk. "Jungkook-ssi found out you were coming to work today and requested for you to do his makeup again."

Jieun grinned.

"Oh-" Jungkook looked up from his seat and spotted Jieun through the mirror. He closed his magazine and placed it on his lap. "You're here today."

"Yeah-" Jieun tied her hair into a ponytail and approached Jungkook with a teasing smile. "You happy to see me?"

After finding out more about Jungkook the other day, Jieun was ready to start on a clean slate with him. No more drama, no more saying things to purposely make him angry, no more snapping at him. Just... trying to be cordial - before she finishes her mission and leaves her job, that is.

"Please-" Jungkook scoffed and rolled his eyes. "I was just wondering why it has been so quiet these few days. Now I know it was because you weren't around."

Jieun laughed. "Don't be shy, I already heard from Shuhua that you requested for me to do your makeup today."

Shuhua looked away quickly.

"That Yeh Shuhua-" Jungkook groaned. "Yeah, I did. So what?"

"Nothing-" Jieun beamed. "Just... happy."

Jungkook pursed his lips, clearly holding in a smile. "What were you up to over the past few days?"

"Just... stuff," Jieun said vaguely as she turned her phone to silent mode and shoved it into her jeans backpocket. "You think I only have this job to attend to? I'm busy with other stuff too, just like the rest!"

Jungkook glanced up at Jieun. "Like what?"

"Oh, um-" Jieun was stumped for a second. For the past few days, all she had been doing was organising documents and managing their company website. "Just busy with my life, that kind of thing?"

"Ah-" Jungkook said nonchalantly as he looked away. "I see."

"So Big Boss-" Jieun scrutinised Jungkook's face through the mirror. "What kind of look shall we go for today?"

"As always... anything."

"One order of anything coming right up!" Jieun smiled as she searched the makeup box on the table for the tools she required. "Let's see... Hm..."

Crack!

Jieun gasped as she reached down and picked up her phone, which had fallen to the ground while she was reaching for something on the table. "Ah, damn it."

Jungkook glanced over and noticed exactly how cracked Jieun's phone screen was. "Your phone..."

"It's okay, it's already cracked beyond repair-" Jieun laughed as she turned it around and dusted it off a little. "Another drop won't make it crack any further."

"No, it's not that..." Jungkook pursed his lips. "It's just that, your phone..."

Jieun held up her phone. "What about it?"

"You didn't change it after it cracked?"

"No, I didn't," Jieun said with a small chuckle. "Why would I? It's not like it can't be used anyway."
