chapter 36: jealous, dramatic and fabulous

"Actually-" Jennie hesitated. "I'm extremely jealous. But for the sake of my boyfriend's well-being, I'm willing to make personal sacrifices."

Jieun stared blankly at Jennie, who had her arm awkwardly slung around Jungkook's shoulder. Jennie glanced up at Jungkook, who hesitantly put his arm around her shoulder.

"I spoke to Jennie-" Jungkook began, clearing his throat loudly. "I spoke to my girlfriend last night. She very kindly agreed about you moving in with me, so that's not gonna be an issue from this point on. The ball is now in your court, whether you're willing or not."

Jieun's eyes darted from Jungkook, to Jennie, then back to Jungkook once more. Even with their arms around each other, the atmosphere felt off. Was it just her who felt it?

"You know-" Jungkook cleared his throat loudly once more, snapping Jieun back to reality. "I'm not the type who usually likes making requests, especially requests that will inconvenience the people around me. If you don't believe me, you can ask Seokjin-hyung. Hyung, am I right?"

"Mm-" Seokjin nodded quickly. "Jungkook-ie isn't the type who likes inconveniencing people for his own sake. So when he does it, it means that he really, really needs help."

Jieun pursed her lips.

"I can vouch for that too!" Jennie put up her arm hurriedly. "He called me on the phone last night, in tears, and I had to go over to his house and comfort him. He's in a bad state, Jieun-ssi. You're the only one who can help him. Take it as a favour for me, please?"

Jieun was pressurised from all sides.

"Still..." Jieun frowned. "I don't think it'll look good on Jungkook-ssi to have a random woman staying at his house when he's dating someone else? The rumours between V-ssi and Jennie-ssi are already the talk of the town these days..."

"You don't have to worry about that, Jieun-ssi-" Seokjin assured her. "After the recent incident of JK's residential address being leaked to the reporters, I have been in the process of helping JK move his things over to a new apartment building - this one with much higher security and privacy as well, so you don't have to worry about being found out."

Jieun sighed, still thinking hard.

"Ah..." Seeing Jieun's hesitation, Jungkook clutched his head dramatically as he leaned against Jennie. "Ah... headache... I don't feel too well..."

Jennie looked up at Jungkook, immediately identifying the same method she used on Yoongi - like, all the time. She gasped loudly, dramatising every little movement as she grabbed onto Jungkook and shook him.

"Omo! Our Jungkook-ie!" Jennie sobbed. "Sweetie! Are you okay? Are you not feeling well?"

Jungkook paused his acting for a while just to look up at Jennie who winked at him. Without any warning, she pushed his head back down onto her shoulder, before she began sobbing softly as she cradled him in her arms.

"Ah! It's all my fault!" Jennie cried out, raising her voice for Jieun to hear. "It's all my fault I'm not the person you're looking for... it's all my fault. If only I was the right person, then you wouldn't be in such misery today... Jungkook-ah, I'm so sorry..."

Seokjin watched them with his mouth hanging open, unable to believe this fake act they were putting in front of Jieun just to get her to agree. Seokjin was used to seeing them bickering all the time - after photoshoots, in the office, in the car - why was Jennie willing to help Jungkook this time?

Unbeknownst to Seokjin, Jieun also was also not buying it - and this whole act just reinforced how sure Jieun was that this entire relationship was fake. She was slowly developing a friendly relationship with Jungkook and that's why her heart was beginning to soften, but now was time to go back to reality.
