Ch 162: She Won't Survive

This is the first time for him in both lives that he has ever ridden a sports car.

Lin Ye stares at the interiors in a daze. He has always fantasized about buying a sports car and driving it with a pretty young lady.

But he has never expected that his fantasy would come true so early, albeit with him sitting on a different seat.

Lin Ye glances at Swire, while his mind goes back to what happened half an hour ago.

After Swire took off her sunglasses and publicly announced her identity, Lin Ye saw a clear change in the expressions of those researchers from Rhine Lab.

They seemed to be in despair.

The atmosphere turned awkward immediately, and it reminded him of the old gangsta movie troupe, where the main character would take off his sunglasses and announce that "I'm actually an undercover agent."

That would be really entertaining.

Fortunately, nobody present was really a gangster. After the simple greeting, she dragged him inside her car.

Swire asks while driving with one hand, "How are you feeling? You don't seem to be in a good mood."

Lin Ye sighs, "How can I feel good, when you made an entrance like that?"

Swire frowns, obviously displeased, "Hey, what do you mean? The Senior Superintendent of the LDG came to pick you up in person. What are you so dissatisfied with? Do you want me to drive a police car to pick you up instead?"

"No! No! I'm happy! Very happy!"

Lin Ye doesn't want her to get upset. After all, he already experienced her tantrums.

After a moment of silence, Lin Ye asks, "How did you know I would be there?"

"Didn't I tell you? I was on official business, official business!" Swire says in annoyance, "This Superintendent of the LGD was performing her official duties, and she just so happened to see you there, so she decided to bring you along."

"Official duties?" Lin Ye doesn't seem convinced, "What kind of business would-?"

"Hey!" Swire cuts him off, "You dare to question this Superintendent's official business?!"

"But there's no way we met by coincidence. There's just no way." He says, "Speaking of which, you are driving a sports car. Are you really on official duties? How can anyone drive a sports car on official duties?"

"What am I supposed to do about it?" Swire says in annoyance, "Do you think I want to drive this car? This is the worst car my family has."

"..."

"And I really was working." Swire glances at Lin Ye,

"Do you think I went there just to pick you up? Tsk. You are not that special for the Superintendent to go out of her way to pick you up."

"..."

"Hey! Say something!"

"What should I say?"

"Tsk. Boy, you really don't know how to sweet talk." Swire sighs, "Fine. Even though I didn't go there specifically for you, there is something that concerns you."

"Me?" Lin Ye is surprised, "What is it?"

"Not you. I meant Rhodes Island. It's about Rhine Lab."

Lin Ye pauses after hearing that.

Does she know?

Swire glances at his face through the rearview mirror and notices his change of expression, "You were trading with Rhine Lab?"

Lin Ye coughs, "Uh... it's sensitive information."

Shit. I just admitted it.

"Hey, take it easy." Swire says, "It's not a big deal, as far as I know."

"Then, what were you doing here?"

"I had to check on those former employees of Rhine Lab." Swire explains, "They don't have a good reputation, but after Rhine Lab dissolved, many forces have wanted to know where these people went."

"Including the LGD?"

Swire glances at him, "I don't know. I just look at the problem from the perspective of the LGD. During the years of its operation, Rhine Lab sold illegal drugs to different organizations and forces. Some of those drugs even reached Lungmen, but fortunately, they didn't cause any harm for the time being. However, when we learned of their recent appearance in Lungmen, the boss told me to come and take a look. By the way, he kicked their asses so that they won't mess with the dragon."

"Kicked their asses? You mean physically?"

"Yeah." She shrugs, "Just a small lesson for them."

"Are you going to beat Rhodes Island too?"

She shrugs again, "We understand that Rhodes Island is different, and that you need those instruments for research. However, you can't do the trade in Lungmen."

Lin Ye nods, "I will take your word for it then."

Swire smirks, "Alright. Now that my official duty is complete, I can finally go to the show."

"That's it?"

"Yeah. How about you?" Swire asks back, "Do you have your ticket on you?"

"Oh, uh..." Before he can answer her, Lin Ye realizes that he has a serious problem.

According to Swire, those researchers from Rhine Lab aren't good people, which is eerily similar to what Saria told him.

I have to tell Silence.

A man wearing a trench coat takes a picture of Swire's car from the shadows and sends it to a number. Then, he dials the same number.

"I found Beatrice Swire. She's heading to the theater with... a man." he whispers, "Don't worry. She won't survive tonight."
