Unless they have just gotten independence, If there is a drastic enough change in their government, then usually there would be a new personification to take their place
Such as with German empire and Weimar republic
But if it isn't very drastic, then usually the personification would survive and possibly change their flag, such as with Weimar republic and third Reich as a certain someone just became leader.
(quick question, would there have been drastic enough changes in France's history since the revolution because modern france is considers the 5th french republic and i wonder how old are they?)
