Nuclear

I realize now that i have headcanons for how radiation accidents/getting nuked has effected a few countries so here are some more examples of those mutations from accidents and even testing

- The soviet union did testing in Kazakh and his wings can glow in the dark as a result

- In 1962 due to human stupidity, almost the entire country of Mexico was exposed to radiation, so now his skin is tougher than most and is much harder to cut (but still possible)

- Because of testing in both the Soviet union and America. Soviet got stronger and America's sense of sight and hearing improved 

- Bikini Atoll, there was nuclear testing there and it is still radioactive, She can now breathe underwater and is still around despite having no citizens left because of the testing 

- Japan grew (functional) cat ears and a tail and became a neko

- Due to Chernobyl belarus' eyes glow and Ukraine's voice is slightly distorted as a result  

- Australia is immune to venom from all his animals since the UK tested nukes in his land

so in other words nuclear radiation can give a personification superpowers

The effect of nuclear radiation wasn't known for a long time as there just wasn't much known about nuclear radiation in general when nuclear bombs and power became a thing. People were a little sus of nuclear power when the bombs dropped and japan became a neko But that was originally thought to be a result of the bombs so America, who was the only country at the time to have bombs, said he wouldn't ever drop anymore after WW2, everyone forgot this when the cold war started. 

But when nuclear spills happened and their countries were effected as well as those who had nuclear testing done in their land, the personifications realized the possible effect of a nuclear fallout and nuclear power just became that more dangerous to them.
