The Fowlerton Fair (Part 1)

Sylvie's pov

I was sitting on my bunk when my phone rang. "Hey mom what's up" I ask her. "Oh just checking to make sure you were still coming this weekend." She says "Yeah I still am I can't wait for the fair." I say. "You know you should bring that friend of yours. I think his name is matt." She says "mom it's last minute notice I'm sure he's busy." I say "nonsense that boy is never too busy for you." She says making me blush. "Mom it's too late to ask." I say a bit annoyed. "Come on just ask him. You won't regret it" she says "mom fine I'll ask." I say. "Thank you sweetheart your father just walked in from the farm so I'll talk to you later" she says "alright mom tell him I say hi." I say as I hang up the phone. I look over and see matt in his office. I slow get up off my bed and head over. "Hey" I say knocking on the door. "Hey you come in what's up" he asks me "I have a favor for you and you can totally say no to this. I know its last minute so if you're busy just say no. It will be fine I promise." I ramble. "Sylvie just asks me." He says standing up from his desk. "You know how I'm going home this weekend for the fair?" I ask him "yeah I know" he says nodding. "Well my parents insist that you come. Actually, mom more likely. I totally understand if you are busy." I say leaning up against his bed. "I'd love to come. I actually have nothing planned for this weekend. Was just gonna hang around the apartment. So yeah tell your mom I'd be happy to come." He says "great thanks I'll let her know. You don't me mind driving" I ask him "nope not at all" he says with a smile "great I'll pick you up at 8 that way we have the afternoon and evening to spend at the fair." I say "sound good to me." He says just as the bells go off for the whole house.

The weekend fast approached. I pulled up outside Matt's place at 8am. Just as I was about to hope out of my car he walks out the door. "All set for a great weekend" he says making me smile. "Can't wait and don't feel the need to answer all my mom's obnoxious questions. She's just probing for info." I say as we head on our way. About 3 hours later we arrive. "Wow this is such a great looking place." he says "Yeah it's great just not for me anymore. I love coming home don't get me wrong but I'm a city girl now." I say as we pull up into the farm. "Yeah I get that" he says "hey mom" I say hoping out of the car. "Hi sweetie your father is just finishing up the farm work he'll meet us at the fair later. Oh and Jaxson is gonna be there after he gets off work." She says "oh okay oh mom this is Matt Casey. Matt this is my mom. I say. "It's nice to meet you Mrs. Brett." Casey says. "Oh please call me Martha. Any friend of Sylvie is on first name bases with me." She says. "Well then it's nice to meet you Martha" he says with a smile. "You guys go get settled and we'll get ready to leave soon." she says. "So let me show you where we are staying" I say as we head inside with our bags. "Wow this is a great looking house. The wood work in the stair railing is amazing. Great craftsmanship." He says as we walk up the stairs. "Yeah dad built them by hand. I have a feeling you to will get along get great." I say "wow he built that, that's cool. Soooo.... um..... Which one of these is Sylvie's childhood room" he says. "Ha-ha jokes on you my childhood room has significantly changed since I was a kid. After I got engaged and was living with Harrison my parents changed it into a guest room." I say. "Darn I was looking forward to seeing cute Sylvie pictures everywhere." He says all flirty like. "Oh if you behave I think I might be able to find one or two before the end of our weekend." I say flirting back. "Oh looks like I found the first picture." He says "wait what" I say turning around fast seeing him holding a photo of me from when I was 5 on my first day of kindergarten. "Mother!" I whisper in my breath. "I thought that was put away." I say walking over and gently taking it from him. "It's cute I'm glad it's out." He says with a smile that causes us to stare at each other. After what feels like an eternity we break apart. "Ummm let me show you where your room is. Right this way." I say as we walk through the Jack and Jill bathroom. "Sorry but we have to share the bathroom. Limited number of them in the house." I say "its okay I don't mind" he says as we walk into the guest room. "So this is your room for the weekend. There are fresh towels in the dresser over there and extra blankets in the closet if you need any." I say "I'll let you unpack and meet you downstairs we leave for the fair in 15- 20 minutes if that's good for you." I say "sounds perfect I'll meet you downstairs." He says. I head downstairs and find my mom sitting in the couch. "So he seems nice." My mom says handing me a glass of water. "Yeah Matt's great" I say taking a few sips of water. "So you two a thing" my mom just says flat out. "Mom!" I say as I practically spit out my water. "What? It's just a question Honey" she says "no matt and I are just friends." I say. "What a shame I saw the way he looked at you." she says "we are just friends" I say as I hear him coming down the stairs. It takes us about 5 minutes to get to the fair. "So I was thinking we could hit the tilt a whirl first then head over the Ferris wheel. Then we should head over and do the big potato sack slide to race each other. After that is a food break and then more rides and more food." I say as we head inside the fair grounds. "You have this all planned out don't you." He says. "Oh she's like this every year." My mom says "Hope you can keep up." I say. "Oh I'm up for the challenge" he says bumping my shoulder with his. "You gonna be Okay mom" I ask as we start to walk off. "Oh yeah sweetie I'll be fine go off and have a good time." She says. "So what's your favorite thing here?" He asks me as we walk towards the rides area. "Well that depends are we talking about the whole fair or just the rides. Because if it's the whole fair it would have to be jimmy's smoked BBQ they have the best fire roasted corn. You have not lived till you have tasted jimmy's corn. But if you are talking rides. Then oh the tea cups. The faster the better." I say "so a thrill junky good to know" he says as we reach the tilt a whirl. "Well that was a good start to the thrills. I say as we get off the ride and head to the Ferris wheel next. "I love when the ride stops at the top you can see everything from up there." I say. "Well then it might require a second ride when its dark out we can see everything lit up." he says as we start to go around. We then make our way over to the slide. "Hey last one down the slide has to buy dinner. I say "you're on! Be prepared to lose." He says. As we grab our sacks and climb the stairs to the top of the slide. "Ready set go" the ride operator says. I push off and leave Matt in the dust. "Ah that's not fair you cheated somehow." he says "come on matt, me cheat" I laugh. "What's your secret then." he asks. "See the trick is all in how you grip the sack. Guess you're buying dinner then." I say with a smile. "So it seems I am" he says. "Oh hey there's my dad." I say pointing him out. "Hey pumpkin it's good to see you. Who do we have here" he says giving me a hug. "Dad this is Matt Casey. We are friends that work together. Casey this is my dad." I say introducing them. "It's so nice to meet you Mr. Brett. He says. "Oh please call me Neil" he says shaking his hand. " well it's nice to meet you and your wife I've heard a lot of great things about you guys through Sylvie's stories." matt says. "Have you seen your brother yet ?" dad asks me "not yet mom says he's coming after work so I'm thinking around 5-6pm." I say. "Well I'll let you get back to enjoying the fair. I'm off to find your mother again." my dad says as he walks off "your family seems nice. So what's next on your agenda" matt asks "Well snack time? We need to get a deep fired funnel cake. My treat since you have dinner" I say. After ordering our funnel cake we take it over to a bench and listen to the music that is playing. I was so content listing to the music that I didn't hear Jaxson come up behind me. All I heard was the "BOO" it made me jump so high. All Matt could do was laugh. "I take it your the not so boyfriend" Jaxson says. "Jaxson cut that out this is Matt my friend" I say "sorry about him" I mouth to Matt. "Its okay" he mouths back. "Yes I'm Matt it's nice to finally meet you." he says to him. "She take you on the tea cups yet?" Jaxson asks "no not yet" he says. "oh then you're in for a treat she goes fast." he says. "So I've heard" I say bumping shoulders with Sylvie, "just friends uh huh...." Jaxson says as he walks off. "So now that our stomachs have rested tea cup time." she says
