The trees of the forest rushed pat me and inside my head, I already heard doctor Taylor nagging me that I still shouldn't strain my leg too much. But right now, I didn't care at all. I just wanted to create a great distance between Cassian and myself.

My paws carried me fast over the earthy ground that was still covered with dry leaves from autumn.

My breathing was quick and actually, every muscle in my body screamed at me to stop and not run any further.

Without really noticing it, I sprinted over asphalt and stopped abruptly as if my body knew it had reached my final destination.

And after recognizing the house I now stood before, I knew exactly why my legs carried me here.

I was at the house of Ethan, my former best friend who was the only one that still defended me after I pushed everyone away. Though he didn't know my reasoning, he still tried to be there for me and knowing that, filled my heart with trust.

»Kyran?« Ethan's voice sounded behind me. He had the case of his bass on his back and was about to push his scooter into the garage but stopped after seeing me.

»What're you doing here?«

Frowning, he parked his scooter and came to me. Whimpering, I walked up to him and pushed my head against his legs.

»First, come inside. And then you will explain what happened,« he said and then brought his scooter into the garage before we went through a side-door inside the garage to enter the house.

Just when the door closed, I already stood on two legs and tousled my hair. »Now, tell me, what happened?« he said worriedly. He must have seen that I cried.

I wanted to answer but suddenly Mr. Conner stumbled into the hallway – in one hand a beer. That just couldn't be true.

»You're back, son?« Mr. Conner asked smugly and needed to support himself at the wall to not fall.

»Yes, Dad. Look who is visiting us again,« Ethan answered in a calm manner and signed to me.

Even though he spoke calmly, I noticed immediately that he tensed up. But probably more because of the cutting smell of alcohol that was just disturbing for our sensitive sense of smell.

»Didn't I tell you to clean the living room? And that you shouldn't bring over friends. Above all the one that banned you from his life without giving you a reason and then ran away without leaving a life sign behind. I don't want that gay Beta bastard inside my house.«

Startled, I flinched backward but got shielded by a growling Ethan.

»It isn't my job to clean after the trash you created and Kyran had a good reason, that I completely understand, why he needed to go. And furthermore, Dad, Kyran is my future Luna and you have no right to insult him! Because if you do that you're insulting my pack and Mom too!« Ethan growled and now I flinched because of his words.

Even in my presence Ethan almost never talked about his mother, but he still had mentioned her sometimes. But in the presence of his father? Never.

Unexpectedly, Mister Conner took out with his flat hand and slapped Ethan so hard his head snapped to the side and a quiet crack was heard.

»Don't you dare talk in the name of your mother with your filthy mouth! It's your fault that she is dead and it will be your fault forever! And I give a shit about stupid ranking system in your pack! This boy is not more worth than a piece of shit!«

Ethan's body started to tremble and he clenched his hands to fist. So hard his knuckles turned white. And immediately the scent of blood trailed into my nose.
