»How is that even possible?!«

This was a question we all asked us.

Outside the pack partied but we on the other hand had a crisis meeting inside the office of Kenneth.

Incensed Caleb looked down on his trembling hand and then up in panic. »How can I be the Beta! I'm not born as one!«

There was still a touch of the golden color in his eyes. The same gold color that filled my eyes when I was born.

After the strange situation we went straight into the house. The pack took it with ease, well at least they didn't break out in panic.

The pack was probably prepared for everything – a defective Beta, Beta turns into Luna, a normal wolf of another rank turns into a Beta.

And it was understandable why Caleb was in panic like that. Something like that had never happened.

Although it was known that a Beta that was about to die and had no offspring, could choose someone and give them the essence of their Beta rank. But something like that almost never happened – only in war times and the Beta obviously died.

Normally there could be only two Beta's inside a pack. So, if I had lost the rank I was born with – what I hadn't – then would my father still be the Beta, but now there was Caleb. Three Betas – two born, one changed into one.

»If we look at it logically, it does make sense and at the same time not,« Ellinor said. She sat in an armchair and had her arms and legs crossed.

»What of all of this makes any sense, Elli!« Cal hissed and then slapped his hand over his mouth.

He spoke with a so-called Beta-authority – it wasn't as powerful as one of an Alpha but on a wolf of a lower rank it was still effective. Their wolf would bow down to the one higher in rank and follow their command.

»If we look at the big picture...« she began and looked at Cas and me.

»Cassian and Kyran never got along with each other. That alone questions their Alpha-Beta-bond. Suddenly, it comes to light that they are mates and Kyran turns into the Luna. Though, we can still feel that he has the essence of a Beta inside himself, he is now from the rank Luna and that power is much greater than the one before.«

Our parents and the former Alpha-couple nodded while we three younger ones kept quiet.

»Now we look at Cal's situation. We can clearly tell that the bond between Cassian and Caleb was always better than the one between Cassian and Kyran. So, it kind of sounds logical that Caleb changed into a Beta. The only question that stays is why he wasn't born as a Beta. I can answer that with only one thing. It was actually planned that Kyran takes over both responsibilities, right? Luna and Beta. A thing that is impossible, if he still wants a private life, if you ask me. I would have waited for a black out. Maybe something just pulled the trigger with the announcement and changed Caleb into the Beta he rightfully was. Maybe our beautiful moon goddess made it that way. Kyran is now officially the Luna and can't follow his nature as a Beta anymore. And then she looked for someone else who can fulfill that nature and choose Caleb. Somehow, that logic makes sense but at the same time not.«

Elli's theory sounded good. But it still threw the question at me why I wasn't born with another rank from the start.

If we were truthful, it would have been better if I was born as a Omega. With that, I could have the possibility to bear offspring.

Frustrated, my father sighed and tousled his light coloured hair. »It couldn't have gotten more complicated.«

»Tristan, it's best if we stay calm and accept the situation as it is. Then Caleb is the Beta now and takes a big burden from the shoulders of our oldest son. And even though it will be stressful to repeat the Beta-lessons in just one year, I'm sure Kyran won't back away from helping Caleb if he asks for help. After all, he is trained in the ways of a Beta,« Kenneth said and exchanged looks between my father, Caleb and me.
