492: INT. PAISLEY PARK (STUDIO) DAY

FADE IN:

One month later, January 2008. Rachael is back in the studio to work on her next album.

RACHAEL: (Comes in) Hey.

PRINCE: There she is. (gets up and hugs her) How you doing Rach? I heard about what happened to you and the kids at the mall. You guys okay?

RACHAEL: Yeah, we were fine. The kids were pretty shaken up though. Michael felt awful.

PRINCE: I'm really sorry you guys had to go through that Rach.

RACHAEL: Well, it's over now.

PRINCE: Oh, and I've got some good news. "Dream" has been nominated for album of the year!

RACHAEL: Are you serious?!

PRINCE: Yup! And "You Never Done It Like That" is nominated for record of the year!

RACHAEL: Ahhh! (leaps into his arms)

PRINCE: Congratulations Rach! Alright, now let's get down to business. You ready to record?

RACHAEL: Yes! I've been working on a bunch of new songs, and I think you're really gonna like them.

PRINCE: Alright, let's start with this one, "Love On A Shoestring". (plays the track)

RACHAEL: (Starts singing)
We've been here before
Like a book I read in the hall that leads to your door
And my words hang in the air
Like the smoke when I spoke to you
And I said before you come to bed
Take off your ring
My heart's on a thread
And love's on a shoestring
And I've been down to the wire
That's the way my luck has been
But I can't put out this fire
Let the loser win I still look for your face
On the old dirt road I used to walk to your place
It's good to know that you're doing well
Did you hear, was it clear to you?
When I said before you come to bed
Take off your ring
My heart's on a thread
And love's on a shoestring
And when I look in your eyes
I can hear them sing
There are no ties
With love on a shoestring
And I said before you come to bed
Take off your ring
My heart is on a thread
And love's on a shoestring
And when I look in your eyes
I can hear them sing
There are no ties
With love on a shoestring
There are no ties
With love on a shoestring...

PRINCE: Damn Rach, that was intense. Where did that come from?

RACHAEL: I know what you're thinking, but don't read too much into it, okay? It's mostly about my feelings during the trial. I wanted to be there for Michael, but we were going through hell. I'd never leave Michael, but it was definitely a rough point in our marriage. Those were just my feelings. Not knowing whether or not Michael was going to jail, what would happen to us. It was written from that perspective, not as a breakup song.

PRINCE: I gotcha. Regardless, it's beautiful and it's deep. Let's keep going. (plays the next track)

RACHAEL: (Starts singing)
Another night on the town
Steppin' out, jivin' around
Don't know where you're going
All dressed up for no one
Singles bars, they get you down
But you're going somewhere just cause it's loud
Puttin' on your cool for the crowd
You tell them you ain't lonely
But you're dying to meet
Mr. One And Only to sweep you off your feet And there'll be no love in the morning
It's gonna be so cold in the morning
He's all gone in the morning
He won't give you no love in the morning
That one over there qualifies
He's the right age, color and size
He's handsome and he's witty
He's good at the game
He tells you that you're pretty, but he forgot your name
And there'll be no love in the morning
It's gonna be so cold in the morning
He's all gone in the morning
He won't give you no love in the morning
How long can this go on
Lookin' for a love on the run
Love is just a body
That's all you get
Until you find somebody sleeping in your bed
And there'll be love in the morning
He won't leave you so cold in the morning
He won't be gone in the morning
Baby, you need love in the morning You need some love in the morning
He won't leave you so cold in the morning
He won't be gone in the morning
Baby, you need love in the morning
You need some love in the morning
He won't leave you so cold in the morning
He won't be gone in the morning
Baby, you need love in the morning...
