"All This Time"
Izuku Midoriya x Reader
You didn't realize how long you had been staring at the pink petals drifting in the wind until you heard footsteps approach quietly behind you. You were sitting on the small bench near the edge of U.A.'s training field, where the cherry blossom trees bloomed every spring. The place was quiet, peaceful, and for some reason, it always reminded you of him.
And today, like fate had heard your thoughts, it was him who showed up.
"Ah—(Y/N)! I didn't know you'd be here," Izuku Midoriya's voice came out a little too fast, too nervous—classic him.
You turned your head and smiled softly, brushing a strand of hair behind your ear. "Hey, Midoriya. Just needed a break... it's been a long day."
He gave you that sheepish grin of his, the one that always made your heart flutter without warning. "Yeah... I get that. Mind if I sit with you?"
You scooted over a little, patting the empty spot beside you. "Not at all."
For a moment, neither of you spoke. The quiet wasn't awkward—just gentle. The kind that lets you breathe. The kind you only have with someone who makes you feel safe.
"I... I actually came out here looking for you," he said finally, his voice low. "I've been meaning to talk to you."
Your heart skipped. "Really? Is something wrong?"
"No—no! Nothing bad. I mean, it's not like that. It's just—" He scratched the back of his head, avoiding your eyes. "I've been trying to say something for a while now, but I kept... chickening out."
You tilted your head curiously. "Midoriya..."
He turned toward you slowly. His green eyes, usually so filled with determination, were now soft and nervous. But behind that nervousness was something deep—something sincere.
"I guess I'll just say it," he said, exhaling shakily. "I like you, (Y/N). A lot. More than I've ever liked anyone."
Your breath caught.
"I know I talk too much and ramble, and maybe I'm not always the most confident person unless I'm fighting villains," he continued, voice trembling with honesty. "But around you... I feel calm. I feel like I can breathe. You've always been there, supporting me—even in the smallest ways. Your laugh, your advice, even just sitting next to me on bad days—it all means more than I can say."
The wind picked up for a moment, sending a swirl of cherry blossoms around you both like something out of a dream.
"I didn't want to mess this up," he whispered. "But not telling you... that felt even worse."
You blinked, eyes stinging slightly—not from sadness, but from the sheer warmth of the moment. The way he looked at you—it wasn't just a crush. It was something he'd held inside for a long time.
You reached out, gently placing your hand over his, your fingers lacing together naturally.
"I like you too, Midoriya," you said quietly, smiling in a way that made his heart nearly burst. "Honestly... I've been waiting for you to say that."
His eyes widened, like he couldn't believe what he was hearing. "You have?"
You nodded. "All this time."
For a moment, he didn't say anything—he just stared at you, like you were the most important thing in the world. Then, without thinking, he squeezed your hand gently and let out a small, joyful laugh.
"This is real, right?" he said, almost to himself.
"It's real," you confirmed.
He looked up at the falling petals, his expression so full of quiet happiness that it made your chest ache in the best way. "Then I promise... I'll never let you down."
The air still felt soft—like the world was holding its breath just for the two of you.
You didn't know who leaned in first. Maybe it was him. Maybe it was you. But somewhere between the blush on his cheeks and the way his thumb was gently tracing your knuckles, the space between your faces disappeared.
It was a shy, trembling kiss. Just a brush of lips at first.
Midoriya's eyes fluttered closed as he leaned into it carefully, like you were made of something delicate. His hand came up slowly, hesitating before it touched your cheek, his palm warm against your skin. The kiss deepened—still tender, still uncertain—but full of every word he couldn't say out loud.
When you finally pulled apart, your foreheads rested together. Both of you were smiling, both of you trying to catch your breath—not from the kiss, but from everything that had built up to it.
He laughed under his breath, nervous and dazed. "W-Was that okay?"
You nodded, cheeks burning as your hands clutched his softly. "More than okay."
"I—I've never... really done that before. Not like that," he admitted shyly, his ears turning bright red. "I mean, I read about how to kiss in a few romance articles because I wanted to get it right—Wait! That sounds weird—!"
You burst into laughter, burying your face in his shoulder as he fumbled through his words, completely flustered. "Midoriya, you don't have to overthink it. It was perfect. You're perfect."
That made him go completely still.
"...You really think so?" he whispered.
You leaned back to look at him. His eyes were wide and filled with something almost tearful—but not sad. Just overwhelmed. Happy.
"I do," you said honestly. "You're kind, brave, hardworking... And the way you care about everyone, especially me? It's... impossible not to fall for you."
His breath hitched, and then he was hugging you tightly—arms around your back like he didn't want to ever let you go. You felt his heart beating fast against yours, and yours matched his rhythm.
"Thank you," he murmured into your hair. "For liking me. For seeing me."
You smiled as your fingers gently threaded into his curls. "Always."
Later that night, he'd walk you home, fingers shyly brushing yours before he got the courage to hold your hand again. You'd catch him looking at you with that soft, glowing expression—the one he wore when watching something he'd always dreamed of but never thought he could have.
And when he whispered "Goodnight," his voice would tremble—not out of fear, but wonder.
Because for the first time, love didn't feel like something far away or unreachable.
It was standing right there beside him.
