Can't Let You Go

"Won't you like to go back to the Philippines, Miss Vizconde? It's been a year and a half, you will already miss your graduation if you will have another extension ,yet you still don't like to go back there. Besides, a lot of companies are already waiting for you there for your internship, they've been contacting us non-stop." Sabi ng Program Head ng Student Exchange.

"Umm..." I was rendered speechless. Ano pa ba naman kasing sasabihin ko? Ilang beses ng na-extend yung program ko at last year pa ko dapat bumalik. Lahat na nga yata ng dahilan nasabi ko na kakapaextend ko. 

At siguro oras na nga talaga para bumalik ako--kami. Oras na para harapin namin ang mga multo ng nakaraan. Hindi naman din kasi pwedeng habang buhay na lang kaming tatakbo. 

The Program Head raised her eyebrows at me as if asking  me to try and defend what I want, but I just shook my head and say, "I understand." Before I turn my back and leave.

Bagsak ang balikat akong bumalik sa apartment  ni Carlo. Iniisip ko kung paano ko ibabalita sa kanya na hindi na ko pinayagan na mag-extend at kakailanganin na naming umuwi next month. I'm ready, but I'm not sure with him. Dahil tuwng tinitignan ko sya ramdam ko pa rin ang sakit na nararamdaman nya.

"What happened?" He asked pagkatapos nya akong salubungin sa pinto.

Humugot ako ng malalim na hininga bago ako humarap sa kanya at umiling, "They did not let me."

Bumagsak ang balikat nya sa sinabi ko pero agad din syang ngumiti bago ako inakbayan, "It's okay. Maybe it's really time to go back." He soothingly said that made me feel a little bit better. 

Bago kami makapunta sa sala hinarap ko sya at niyakap ng mahigpit, "Everything's gonna be alright, I promise."

I am currently in Fairmont Raffles having my final interview for my OJT, since nakapag-initial na kami via phone nung nas Florida pa ko. Kahapon kami dumating ni Carlo at ito agad ang bumungad sa akin--sandamakmak na interview schedule para sa intership ko. 

"With your outstanding credentials, Miss Vizconde, why would you like to be a front desk officer? Won't you like to be in a higher post?"

I smiled at the question, "I fully understand that everyone must start from the bottom regardless of how wonderful your credentials are. I cannot be on the higher post without going through all these, I mean, how can I know things if I won't experience it firsthand? Besides, I am just applying for an internship, and no intern can apply for a managerial position, I think."

"What if we absorb you?" She prodded.

"Then, it'll be my pleasure. But let's not go there yet, let's first settle my internship in your company." I merrily said.

Which made her smile sheepishly at me, "Alright. Then, just go back here for your contract signing. Welcome to Fairmont, Miss Vizconde." Then she extended her hands, which I gladly accepted.

"Thank you, Miss Ramirez."

Dumiretso ako sa Starbucks after the interview. Interviews are really nerve-wracking, no matter how much we do it over and over again. The questions, how you will answer them confidently, and the scrutinizing look of the interviewer. Isa nga yata sa mga pinaka ayaw kong gawin ang interview, kung 'di lang kailangan.

I've ordered Triple Cheese Ensaymada and Java Chip Frappuccino, dahil namiss ko  na 'to ng sobra. I was in the middle of taking a bite in my ensaymada when somebody took a seat in front of me. Napahinto ako at taas kilay ko syang hinarap, pero halos mabitawan ko ang ensaymada'ng hawak ko ng makita ko kung sinong nasa harap ko.

"It's been two years, and I've been counting every minute, every second of those years, my Jeraldine. I'm glad you're already back, because I'm ready to win you back."
