"Malfoy just looked at his arm." You say with a light smile, pretending like you're having a happy, romantic conversation with Remus, who is, in fact, a fake lover.
"Dolohov too." He says, his hand loosely in yours. "He's getting up."
"Lucius too. Ready to go?"
He stands up and holds his arm out to you. You take it and walk out of the restaurant, your heart pounding.
The two of you go sit with Harry at Grimmauld Place.
"You guys don't have to stay here." He says. "Everyone else is here. You can... go out for drinks or something."
"Our job is to stay here, Harry." Remus says dutifully.
"Nah, go on." Sirius says from behind the couch you and Remus are sitting on. He ruffles Remus' hair. "I can handle this."
"Sirius--" Remus begins.
"No. Don't Sirius me, young man. Skiddadle." He prods you both in the back until you're standing and Harry's snickering. "Have fun, kids. Don't stay out too late. Have her home by nine, boy. You hear?"
"I don't live here." You remind Sirius.
"Don't care."
"I apologize for Sirius." Remus says as Sirius shuts the door behind the two of you. "We don't have to do this, if you don't want to."
"I'm game if you are. I know you aren't feeling well."
"I feel fine. Shall we?" He smiles and holds out his arm in a friendly gesture, instead of a fake-lover gesture.
The two of you sit in the Leaky Caldron, sipping butterbeers.
"Sirius hasn't changed much, huh?" You ask in a desperate attempt at conversation.
"Pardon?" He asks, looking up from his mug.
"Sirius is still the same, even after Azkaban. Still attractive, still joking. You know? It's kind if reassuring."
"Yes, well. He always was the ladies' man." Remus sounds almost bitter.
Your heart races, thinking you've pissed him off. "What do you mean?" You ask.
"He always got all the women."
"Sorry, but since when were you interested in women?" You counter.
"There's this one I've fancied since third year. She dated Sirius and James, but I was too scared to talk to her, being, you know, what I am."
"Dating Sirius and James were big mistakes. I regret it. I'm sure she does too." You're pretty sure your heart dropped through the floor.
"Yeah, it seems that way." He agrees.
"Do you talk to her now?" You ask, like it doesn't bother you.
"Yeah. We've worked together a bit."
"Then I'm sure she sees how you're a much better option that Sirius or James." You aim for a smile, but you're sure it fails.
"Weren't you just talking about how great Sirius is?" He gives a sort of grimace that you think was meant to be a smile.
"No. I was talking about how he hadn't changed in the least."
"Hm." He says, like he's thinking.
"Remus? May I tell you something?" You say after all these years.
"Sure, Y/N." He glances at you but looks away quickly.
"I think I fancy you."
He snaps his head to look at you. "You do?" He asks, then clears his throat. "I mean: no you don't."
"Pardon?"
"You know my... predicament. Nobody in their right mind would fancy me."
"I've always been known to be crazy." You shrug.
He leans over and kisses you, completely throwing you for a loop. He doesn't stop, though, and you kiss back. He turns and slides off his stool to stand, one arm going around you and the other hand going up to your cheek.
"Bloody hell, Remus." You say when he finally breaks away, his cheeks bright red. "How many girls have you snogged?"
"Um. Well. You'd be the first."
"Well, you did very well." You laugh a bit.
"I want to do it again." He says, quite awkwardly.
"Well, what are you waiting for?"
