"What? You think I need you?" Sirius shouted.
"No, and I sure as hell don't need you either!" You yelled back, then turned and left.

You're walking down the corridor a few days later when James comes up to you and puts his arm around you, making you turn the opposite way. "Yeah, no, let's go this way." He says.
"Yeah, no. I have to get to class." You spin out of his grip and turn around.
Then you see why he had turned you around in the first place. Sirius Black was over there snogging some skank.
"Let's skip, shall we?" He spins you around again.
He doesn't know you saw. Should you play it off or tell him so you can go to class?
"Really, Y/N. Walk this way." Lily Evans says, spinning around to walk with the two of you, even though she hates James.
"Yeah. Evans and I are skipping and I need you to come make sure she doesn't kill me and bury the body." James adds.
"Guys, I don't care what Sirius does. It's his life, not mine. You two skip, I have to get to class." You duck out of both of their arms and walk away.
"Y/N! Hey. Yeah, let's go this way." Remus grabs you and turns you around.
"Remus--"
"Let's skip, yeah? You want to?"
"No, Remus. I need to get to class."
"So do I, but I'm not. Come on, let's go."
"No, Remus. I already saw."
"You okay?" He follows me in the opposite direction.
"Yes, why shouldn't I be? He can do whatever the hell he wants with his life."
"Don't sound okay."
"I'm fine, Remus."
"Yep. Sound fine."
"Remus."
"You sound angry."
"I'm not angry."

"Come on, Padfoot. Face it, you aren't over Y/N." James is saying.
"No, I am."
"No you aren't. You're a mess." Remus says.
"I am not a mess!"
"You are! Look, you have a hair out of place."
"I do? Get it out!" He tilted his head towards Peter. "Rip it out."
You pull a hair out of his head as you're walking by.
"Thanks." He says, sounding relieved as he sits up.
"My pleasure." You sit on the arm of Remus' chair.
"Here, sit down." Remus stands.
"No. I'm fine. You sit."
"No. You."
"I'll sit by Sirius." You get up and sit beside him.
Everyone else acts awkward about it.
Boys. You think, exasperated.
Sirius puts his hand on your knee like he used to. Everyone stares awkwardly at the floor. You look at Sirius until he looks at you.
"Oh. Right. Sorry." He pulls his hand back.
Lily bounds over. "Hey, guys." She says brightly.
Thank God for Lily. You sigh in relief.
"Hey." They chorus.
She sits beside James and starts talking to you and Remus. James gives Sirius a panicked look. He's a smooth talker, but put him on the front lines and he freaks out. It's adorable.

You walk into the common room late that night. It's nearly deserted, except for Sirius and some people studying. Sirius stands up when you walk in. "I need to talk to you." He says quickly.
You're tired and you just want to go to bed. You don't want to talk to anybody, much less him. "Sirius--"
"No, please. It won't take long."
"Fine." You sigh.
"I know I said I was over you and I've been acting like an asshole but I lied. I'm not over you."
"Yes. Sounds believable." You roll your eyes and keep walking.
"Y/N, please." He grabs your hand.
"You really expect me to believe that? Do you take me for an idiot?"
"No. No, I don't. Why don't you believe me? You've always believed me before--"
"Yeah, and before you weren't snogging sluts two days after we broke up." You remind him.
"You realize I haven't left my room for two days? I only came out because James was worried. And I only kissed that girl because--well, there isn't really a good reason."
"Is there a bad reason?"
"Because I was trying to move on."
"I should've known you'd be one of those people."
"Hey." He says, sounding a bit offended.
"Well? May I go to bed now?"
"May I say all I wanted to say first?"
"Fine."
"I'm sorry. I really am. I screwed up again. You'd think I'd learn but apparently I haven't. Please forgive me."
"I forgive you."
"You do? Great." He smiles, looking relieved.
"Yeah, well. Goodnight, then."
"Wait."
"What, Sirius?" You sigh.
"Will you... Can we...?"
"Can we what?"
"Can we get back together?"
"No. I don't trust you."
"I've never given you any reason not to."
"Besides snogging whores today?"
"... Yes. Besides that."
You roll your eyes. "Goodnight, Sirius. Let's be friends, okay?"
"I love you." He says as you pull your hand away.
You turn back to face him. "Why don't I believe you?"
"Because you have trust issues."
"I have trust issues?" You laugh, because you both know it's him with the trust issues.
"Yep." He smiles.
"Goodnight, Sirius." You smile and turn away again.
You don't want to turn around again. You don't want to date him again.
At least that's what you tell yourself.
"Y/N." He says.
"Come on, just kiss him or something. We're trying to study." A seventh year says from the corner.
"Yeah. Just kiss me already." Sirius grins.
You go back to him. "Sirius, this is ridiculous."
"You won't catch me apologizing too often. Take what you can get." He smiles a bit.
"I accepted your apology. I'm sorry too."
"I can't accept yours."
"Why not?"
"Because you didn't do anything wrong."
"Accept the fucking apology."
"Nope. Not accepting."
"You're an arse."
"Yep. But you love me, so kiss me."
You kiss him.
