Remus Lupin x Reader

You turn around when you hear Harry scream. You watch the one and only Sirius Black fall into the veil. Remus holds Harry back. You let your wand arm fall, not even caring if someone were to try to curse you. You watch Sirius disappear behind the curtain.
Remus whispers vehemently to Harry. You know full and well that Remus would have jumped in after Sirius if Harry hadn't been there for him to have to protect.
"Oh my God." You whisper.
"Everybody out." Remus says. "You're going back to school."

When you and Remus get to your house, you both break down.
"I'm going to kill him." Remus says fiercely a while later.
"Who?" You ask hoarsely.
"Peter. I'm going to kill that son of a--"
"This wasn't his fault." You remind him.
"It's all his fault, the traitor. First James and Lily, and now Sirius." He starts crying again, reaching out and pulling you close. "How could he?"

You wake up that night to Remus screaming. You jump awake, only to see that he's still asleep. You shake him until he stops screaming. You're crying again, and he starts too when he wakes up. He pulls you down to him, pressing his lips to yours. "I'm sorry." He breathes.
"It's okay." You curl up against him.
You lay in silence for a while, and you think he's asleep until he speaks up in a panicked voice. "I can't do this. How am I..."
"Breathe, Remus."
"I don't want to."
"Take a deep breathe, baby."
You feel him breathing. You feel his heart racing. You drape your arm over him and scoot closer. His arm tightens around you.
"I'm sorry." He says again.
"Don't be. I understand."
"Do you want me to sleep downstairs?"
"No. I don't want you to be alone."
"I love you." He says, the anxiety back in his voice. "I love you, Y/N."
"I love you too, Remus."
"This is going to get messy. This war." He says.
"Yeah. It is."
"I can't lose you too."
"I don't want to lose you either."
"So you're going to stay out of it. Out of all of it."
"No. That would be cowardly."
"Then be cowardly." He pleads.
"No, Remus. Everything'll be okay, baby." You kiss his jaw.
"I love you." He whispers. "I love you. Thank you."
"I love you too." You assure him.
"No, no. But I love you."
"And I love you too."
"Will you marry me?" He asks, his breath tickling your ear.
"I'd love to."
"Even though we could both die?"
"Yes."
"I love you." He says again.
"And I you."
