I blew a raspberry from my lips as I swirled my drink in my hands. Looking around, people were paired up, laughing, dancing, and having fun. I couldn't help but bite my lip as I neared the corners of the room skirting around the crowd.

A dull ache shot through my heels, making me grimace at how uncomfortable standing was becoming. My eyes roamed around the sea of people dressed in an assortment of dresses and tuxes looking for someone, anyone, I recognized.

"Alright," The man up on a short stage started. He was dressed just as nicely, manning the music. "Next up we have a slow song, so partner up and don't be afraid to get real close baby."

Drats, I didn't want to be the only person not slow dancing. Maybe I could sneak out? Or... find a stranger to dance with?

People began to pair up quickly. My eyes roamed through the wave of people again, and landed on a tall man, dressed in a dark green with black hair styled and frames on his face. It was like a beam made him stand out, like this is the perfect chance.

Quickly setting my drink down, I locked my eyes on him as I made my way through the crowd as music was preparing to start.

He noticed me as I stepped in front of him, looking up to meet his eyes. Damn, he's so tall.

"Oh, hello there." His voice was thick with an accent, and it sent shivers rolling through me.

"Hi, I don't know you but we're the only people not dancing so I figured I'd ask you and I'm hoping it turns out you're really nice." I smiled at him.

He chuckled. "All right. I have to admit though, I'm not teh best dancer." his accent was such a strong Irish one.

Giggling lightly, I took his offered hand. "Perfect, me neither."

He led me towards the dance floor, immediately placing his hands on my waist. I lifted mine up around his neck.

He leaned his head real close to mine, and spoke lowly in my ear, causing my skin to crawl in delight.

"I'm David, by teh way."

"(y/n)." I couldn't help the smile as he began leading our dance. "So, tell me a bit about yourself. You come alone?"

"Nah, I was like a seventh wheel. All my friends hooked up with dates."

My nose scrunched. "Sorry, if it means anything, my two friends ditched me to hook up, too."

"Awe, now why would tey leave such a beautiful girl by her lonesome?" His head tilted to the side in question. I could feel the blood rush into my face.

"Oh, I came as a third-wheel. I expected it." Leaning closer, I gazed into his orbs. "Plus, parties aren't usually my thing."

"Same," he laughed. His smile was contagious, and I couldn't help but grin with him. "So my turn, what's your favorite type of animal?"

"Oh, dogs, all the way."

"Hey, me too!" The excitement in his voice rumbled his chest, making me bite my lip. "I have two. They're lil shits, but I love 'em."

"I wish I could have doggos, but my flat doesn't allow it." I pouted slightly.

"Hey, don't do that."

I titled my head in confusion. "Do what?"

"Pout, you're too pretty to be sad." A hand cupped my face.

"Oh," I blushed as a nervous giggle bubbled in my chest, causing a small grin to form on my lip.

We danced in silence for a while, just leaning in close to each other. Instinct took over as I rested my head on his chest. He held me close, humming along with the music. My mind drifted to a thought. Bad dancer my ass. He hasn't even stepped on my toes.

The music came to an abrupt stop. Pulling back, I looked at David, who's eyes locked onto mine.

"How about that folks. Next up, let's get groovy!" The mic guy spoke.

"I really enjoyed that."

Smiling up at him, I nodded the slightest amount. "Me too."

Letting go of him, we stepped off to the sighed. "I have t' go talk to my buddy Marcel. He's in the music booth."

"Okay." I bite my lip.

"How about you keep another dance on hold for me, hm?"

Nodding, a grin broke across my face as excitement clenched in my chest. "Okay."

He chuckled, picking up my hand in his larger, warm one, bringing it up to his lips. My heart stuttered as he pressed his lips to the back of my hand.

"Until next time."

With that, he turned and walked away.

Hot damn, that was so much better than I could have expected.
