super bummed bc my spring break is over already and i have to go back to college tomorrow. i hate college and am all around miserable there lol

Peter was beyond ecstatic when he heard that Mr. Stark had a new person around his age on the team. He was even more ecstatic when he found out that the person had to stick around water, and Mr. Stark had built a giant pool in one of the rooms for her specifically.

"Is she, like, a fish?" he asked, eyes wide with wonder.

Mr. Stark tilted his head and unscrewed the cap on the bottle of liquor in front of him. Pepper smiled from the sofa and shook her head. Wanda flipped through a book, snickering with Vision.

"Maybe just meet her, kid," he suggested.

"Oh." Peter nodded. "Okay."

He found his way to the pool and walked up to the edge. For a few seconds, he saw nothing but still blue water, too deep to see the bottom. No one was in the pool.

He frowned to himself. Had he really let the whole team trick him into thinking there was a superhero fish that lived in one of the pools?

Just as he was about to turn around, a head popped out of the water. It faced away from him, hands running through long, wet hair.

"Whoa," he said out loud.

The figure turned around.

Your eyes widened, sizing up the young boy in front of you. You gazed at him for a moment longer, because you weren't used to seeing humans - and allowing them to see you, too.

"Whoa," he said again, "you're - you're real!"

You smiled a little and nodded.

The boy walked to the very edge of the pool and sat down cross legged. He couldn't stop staring at you. "I'm Peter," he said, and you swam forward. His eyes focused on the tail that was kicking behind you. His jaw dropped. "And you're - you're half fish."

"Mr. Stark said he needed someone to help him," you told him, leaning against the ledge of the pool. "Someone who knew the waters. He said that what's coming concerns where I come from, too."

"Thanos," Peter said.

You nodded. "I would do anything to save my people. They need me. No one else can do what I do."

"You're a mermaid," he said. "That's awesome. 'Cause The Little Mermaid is a great movie-" You furrowed your eyebrows. "Oh man, they don't have movies underwater, do they? What am I saying, of course they don't. But I didn't think they had mermaids, either, so-"

You grinned. "No, we don't have... moo-vies." You furrowed your head, testing the word on your tongue.

He laughed. Then, getting almost serious, asked, "Hey - are you like... princess of the mermaids?"
