Landing on the pavement at the corner of Delmar's, Peter set you down. He held up a finger and sprinted down the alley, shouting, "Wait right there! I gotta get something!"

You watched him go. He ran to a dumpster, stopped, turned to it, and grabbed something. You grimaced.

He ran back, pulling a couple of fives out of the front. He held them out to you.

"That was really unsanitary," you said.

"No, it's fine, I have hand sanitizer," he said. He pressed the money into your palm.

"Having it isn't the same as using it," you argued.

"Okay, whatever. I'm gross. I get it. Go in there and order me a number five with pickles, smushed real flat. And then get you whatever you want. Have you had a sub before?"

"Uh... I don't- I've never ordered food before, Peter. Why can't you come?" You bit your lip.

"Because if I order my special order, my identity will be blown. Look, it's easy. Just say, Hi, how are you and Can I get a number five with pickles, smushed real flat and then whatever you order! Piece of cake."

"You want me to get a piece of cake?" you asked.

"What?" He smacked his head. "No. This is - this is too difficult. Okay. No cake. Just sandwiches."

"Okay," you said. Your cheeks burned. "I'm new at this, Pete."

"Yeah, it's obvious," he laughed.

"Hey! Well, you sound like a girl."

"What-" He crossed his arms. "Well now you're just being mean. Okay, go, go, 'cause people are starting to stare at the Spider-Man talking to the girl on the side of the road. Plus I gave you money and I bet they're thinking something else is happening." He pushed your shoulders gently towards the store. "I'll be on the roof!" He said, and he jumped up.

You opened the door of the shop. A bell rang somewhere and you didn't know why. As you looked around, you slowly walked to the main counter, where a man was standing.

"Can I help you, miss?" he asked, his Queens accent heavy.

"Uh, y-yeah," you said. "Hi... how are you?"

He gave you a weird look. "I'm... good. How are you?"

"Good," you breathed. Easy. "Can I get two number fives with pickles, smushed real flat?" If Peter thought it was good, it must be.

He smiled. "You know Peter?" he asked.

"Uh-huh," you replied.

He nodded. "That'll be ten dollars, miss."

You handed him the cash and he rang it up as the worker in the back made the sandwiches. When they were wrapped up and bagged, Delmar handed them to you.

"There you are, sweetie," he said. "Enjoy your sandwiches."

"You too," you blurted, and you froze as you grabbed them. Your cheeks burned and you avoided looking at him, because he wasn't eating the sandwiches, you were.

You left the shop with your head down.

You turned the corner. A web shot out and smacked itself on the bag of sandwiches. "Yoink!" Peter exclaimed, pulling it out of your hands. He was sitting on the edge of the roof, feet dangling. "Smells great! How did it go?"

"Uh, you know..." He made a rope out of web for you to climb into. You sat down next to him. He inched back so he was out of view of people walking by. His mask vanished as he pulled out the sandwiches. "He said to enjoy the sandwiches and I said you too."

Peter snorted. "Yeah, that happens. Good to know you're awkward too, Rapunzel." He held both of the sandwiches. "Which one is yours?"

"They're both the same," you said. He handed you one. "You called me Rapunzel?"

"Yeah," he said. "I mean, your story is pretty much like hers. Trapped in a tower - or apartment - because of a crazy mom."

"I've never seen that movie," you said. "Does she get saved by a superhero?"

"Sorta," he replied. He unwrapped the sandwich and took a giant bite. He spoke as he chewed. "His name is Flynn Rider." He stopped chewing, thinking of what happens by the end of the movie.

If he was being a nerd and thought of their situation, he could say that he was Flynn Rider. Which was awesome, because Flynn was hilarious and cool, but also weird, because he hadn't really thought of the relationship Flynn had with Rapunzel...

"This is really good," you said, swallowing your first bite.

He grinned. "Told you," he said.

"Is all food as good as this?" you asked him.

"Nothing beats Delmar's," he replied. "But I'm sure there's other good stuff out there."

You nodded. "This is amazing."

When you both finished, Peter tossed the wrappers into the dumpster across the alley perfectly. His mask reappeared and he grabbed your hand, hopping off the roof. You landed clumsily next to him.

"Where to now?" you asked him.

"Where ever you want," he said.

"I don't know anywhere."

"Then you'll just have to trust me. I don't know what I'm doing, though, so just be patient." He looked around. "Oh! There are maps inside of Delmars. I'm gonna grab one so you can look."

"Okay," you said.

He jogged off. You stood alone in the alley, leaning against the brick wall. You huffed, staring at the pretty, darkening sky.

Someone walked by you and touched your arm. You stiffened and stepped away, seeing a man with his hood up. He looked up at you from under the shadow of the hood.

"Can I help you?" you asked nervously, inching away.

He pulled his hand out of his hoodie pocket. Your eyes widened as you saw a gun in his grip. It was the first time you'd seen a gun in person.

"Give me all of your cash," he said, "and your phone."

"I don't... I don't have-" You backed away. Panic was clouding your mind. You couldn't think anything but I'm going to die I'm going to die I'm going to die-

You staggered backwards, the man stalked towards you, hand raising with the gun-

And your back hit someone's chest and Peter wrapped his arms around you, shouting, "Whoa!" and pulling you behind him. The gun fired and you shouted. It hit Peter's chest-

And bounced off.

"That wasn't cool, man!" Peter shouted, and he shot a web at the guy, tugging him forward and kicking him in the face as he flew towards him.

You just slowly slid down to the ground, feeling your limbs shake with the worst terror you had ever felt.

Peter Parker had just saved your life by risking his.
