You were gently shaken awake. Your eyes peeled open slowly, your brain clouding as you tried to comprehend why you were waking up. You had been having the best dream ever. Peter was just holding your hand...

"___, hey," his soft voice said. His fingers danced through the strands of hair on the side of your head. "Hey, we're in Queens."

At first, you smiled, because he was talking to you and his hands were so warm and his touch so soft, but as his words started to make sense, you realized that this was your last day with him.

"C'mon, we gotta get off the truck," he said.

Your smile faded away.

What did Rapunzel do when she didn't want to say goodbye to Flynn?

...

Peter brought you into his apartment. You were a little nervous when you saw his aunt. Didn't she know that he had been gone for two days?

"Hey, sweetie," she said, picking a book of the shelf. "How was Ned's?"

"Uh, great," he said. "Pretty fun." He put his hand on your back and pushed you forward. "Uh, May, this is ___. She's a friend from across town."

May looked up from the paperback in her hands. "Oh!" She fixed her glasses on her nose and smiled. "Hi, sweetie. I'm May, Peter's aunt."

"Hi," you said softly.

May smiled. "Well, I'll give you kids time to hang out without me bothering you," she said. She picked up a second book and then a glass of lemonade. She shot a wink at Peter and he blushed red, and then she disappeared in a room down the hall.

You looked at Peter. "She's nice," you said.

"Yeah, she's great," he agreed wholeheartedly. He grabbed your hand shyly and brought you to the couch. "Alright, so - Tangled?"

"Yes," you said.

"Awesome," he replied. He for a movie off the shelf and put it in. "Now this may feel like you're watching a documentary..."

You laughed. "I'm excited."

He looked at you and grinned. "Me, too."

...

Watching the movie, you found that you related to Rapunzel more than you had ever related to anyone before. You too were trapped and lonely, and suddenly thrust into this adventure that went so far beyond your wildest dreams. It was amazing to watch something to relatable on screen.

And Flynn, you decided, was like Peter.

The scene with the lanterns made you hold your breath. You must have been tearing up, but Peter didn't say a word. You knew he was watching you though. And when Flynn reached over and pushed a lock of hair behind Rapunzel's ear as their song came to an end, your eyes fell to your lap.

Slowly, you looked at Peter. You wondered if he felt the same way you did. Maybe it was the magic of the movie or how you related to Rapunzel, but you swore that you were in love with him.

His eyes fell to your lips and then swept back up to your eyes, shifting from one to the other. And, just like Flynn, he reached up and pushed a lock of hair behind your ears. Your lips parted and he slid his fingertips down the length of your cheek and then looked away.

"There's still a lot of the movie left," he whispered, fixing his eyes on the screen.

"Peter?" you asked, voice barely above a whisper.

He didn't look at you. "What?"

"I need to know what you're thinking," you said.

He looked at you. His eyes were wide and his lips fixed in a way that made him look like a young child. He barely shook his head.

"I need to know," you said.

"What are you thinking?" he asked.

You blinked. "I'm thinking that I'm in love with you. And I wasn't expecting that but I am. I think I'm in love with you, Peter." You leaned close. "So what are you thinking?"

"That this isn't real," he breathed.

"I think it is." You put your hand in his.

"I'm going to wake up," he said, voice breaking on the word up.

"Peter, we're both awake." You held his gaze. "What are you thinking now?"

"That I imagined this happening when we left," he said, "but seeing it actually play out is... so weird." He smiled, making you laugh in relief. You ducked your head and his hand went to the bottom of your chin, lifting your face so you would look at him again. "And now I'm thinking that you have the prettiest eyes, and the best smile, and you're the best thing that has ever happened to me." His eyes were teary and he shrugged, smiling so wide, looking like he really loved you.

"You're the best thing that's ever happened to me, too," you said. You reached up with both of your hands and brushed your fingers through his hair. He leaned close when you stared at his lips.

Gently, you leaned in and kissed him.

He kissed you right back.

Pulling away from your lips, he tilted his head and looked at you. He shook his head. "Yeah, I'm definitely dreaming," he said, voice light.

You laughed. "You're not, I swear."

"Okay," he breathed. He cleared his throat. "You, uh, wanna finish the movie?" You nodded. "Okay," he said again.

He hit rewind and went back to the end of lanterns scene. He held your hand and watched it instead of you this time.

You cried when Flynn got stabbed. You cried when he died for Rapunzel by cutting her hand so she couldn't heal him. You cried when she cried over him, because you felt for her.

But Peter told you that all fairytales had happy endings, so you just waited it out. Sure enough, Rapunzel cried a tear made of sunlight and healed Flynn  Rider. He came back to life and they kissed, and then he took Rapunzel back home.

You felt more optimistic than you ever had, because you were going to have a similar happy ending. Peter was going to take you home but he was going to leave your life forever. In fact, he was becoming your life.

Your life had began so fast, and it was all because of him.
