Peter couldn't explain the feeling of watching the wizard or the Guardians completely disintegrate in front of him. There wasn't a word out there to capture his relief when he and Tony were left.

"Mr. Stark," he said, looking around, "what do we do? What happened?"

"I don't... I don't know," he gasped, looking around. His eyes settled on Peter's. "I don't know what to do."

Peter blinked in shock. Mr. Stark didn't know what to do? He turned around, surveying the planet that was in ruins. Panic started to rise in him. He and Mr. Stark were lost in space with no guides to show them where they were or how to get home.

His hands began to shake and he fell to the ground, landing too hard. He pressed his palms to his eyes and started to cry.

"Kid, it's alright," Tony said.

"I wanna go home," he cried. "I'm sorry, Mr. Stark, but I-" He wiped his nose with the back of his hand. "I want to go back home."

"We don't know who's left," he breathed. Peter knew he was thinking about Pepper.

And Peter was thinking about you.

"She's gotta be okay," he said, voice soft. "Mr. Stark, she's gotta be."

He shook his head. "There's no way of knowing."

"We gotta go home," he breathed. "I have to go home. What about Aunt May... and Ned?" He bit his lip. "My girlfriend is there and I don't know if she's safe!"

"Kid-"

"Mr. Stark, please," he said.

He stared at him for a long moment, slowly starting to get up to his feet. Peter hurried to him and put his arms around him, supporting his weight. "I'll get us there," he said, "but we've got work to do."

...

It took a long time for them to get home. When they finally broke through the atmosphere, Peter worked on calling Aunt May or you through the tech on his new suit, but there wasn't any service even as they neared Queens.

The entire city was in ruins. The streets were grey with dust and buildings were crumbling at the sides and corners, cars and helicopters wrecked everywhere. The roads were deserted.

"Holy..." Peter whispered, looking out one of the windows. "What the heck happened?"

Tony didn't say a word, just looked sick. "Thanos really did it," he said. "He wiped out half the population. I didn't want to believe it..."

Peter imagined it happening. People vanishing, suddenly empty cars wrecking into people and vehicles and buildings-

Gosh, he hoped you were okay.

"I need to go home," he whispered.

"I'll get you there," he replied.

...

Peter ran to the apartment door. He jiggled the door knob violently before knocking. He waited half a second then knocked again.

"May? Aunt May? Are you in there?" he raised his voice and screamed, "May?"

"Kid," Tony said softly from the end of the hall.

"She can't be dead," he whispered, tearing up. "She... she can't be." He stood back and kicked the door. "Aunt May!" The door fell off the hinges and he ran on top of it, hurrying into the living room.

One of the windows were opened. The room looked neat, but it was also silent and empty.

Peter walked over to the window and closed it.

She was gone.

He shut his eyes and turned around, slowly sinking to the floor. He leaned against the wall and tried to focus on breathing.

"Peter?"

His eyes popped open.

"___," he whispered, seeing your silhouette in the hall. He scrambled to his feet and hurried to you, throwing his arms around you and pulling you close.

After kissing you once, you finally felt real. He pulled back and held your hips, checking over you for scrapes and bruises.

"What are you doing here?" he asked.

"Everyone disappeared," you said, holding him. "My family vanished in front of me. I came here to see if May..." You sniffed. "I'm so sorry, Pete."

He started to cry. Your hands went to his hair and you gently moved your fingers through it, pushing his head to your shoulder. He held you tighter.

"I am so glad you're safe," he whispered.

"I thought you were never gonna come home to me," you said, voice breaking. "I was so afraid. I don't know what I'd do if I never saw you again."

"Me neither," he said, pulling back and touching his forehead to yours. "But we're both here and we're okay." He stroked your cheeks and sniffed, trying to fight back the tears he wanted to shed. "We'll figure things out. We'll fix this."

He wasn't sure if he could fix it. He didn't know what was going on and he didn't even know if it was fixable, but he would try. He would put the universe together piece by piece, build it by hand, or fight Thanos again and again if it meant saving your life.

That's what he told you.

He held you in the middle of his apartment, where the absence of May was so large and hurt his heart. He pulled you closer and rubbed your back, wanting to stop the trembling of your body.

He didn't want you to be as scared as he was, but there was no way that he could comfort you the right way. But he must have been doing something right, because you laid your head on his chest and nodded along with his words, and when he was done, you whispered softly, "I love you, Peter Parker."

"I love you too, baby," he whispered back.

Tony Stark watched from the doorway, smiling softly. He looked down at his cellphone, where the picture of Pepper on his screen was replaced by a voicemail, followed by the tone of the phone.

He turned it off and put it away. There was nothing be could do for her right now, but there was something he could do for the two kids in front of him.
