Estela Daniels as Dido
-OR-
Florence Kasumba as Dido
It's 1701 and Julius was the only friend, the closest to family she'd ever known, and just like that they were separated. From the only information she could ever obtain, he was to be moved to a plantation on the other side of New Providence and Dido was sold to a plantation up in Carolina. But on the ship she meets a Mr. Scott, who -- with the stories of his wife's community -- lends her the hope she needs to kill a man. And before they're even out of the West Indies, they've taken the ship for themselves. She takes it. They look down on her for her actions, and deep down past the indifference and belief she gifted them with what they deserved, maybe even she wants to be punished for taking so many lives. So she resists less than Mr. Scott does when they leave her on a island he refers to as Skeleton Island, while they continue on to bring the ship to Maroon Island. Unfortunately, this island's not as unknown and mysterious as Mr. Scott claimed and not long after she adjusts to life alone there, a young, white pirate captain who calls himself Teach comes with his ship and crew to the island on business she would've preferred not to have witnessed. He sees something in her; maybe a protege, maybe just a weapon. All the same he teaches Dido his way of life, as much as he can with his different and frequently short-sighted perspective, but she adjusts this world to make room for herself in it. Now that Captain Teach is taking on a boy who's clearly a protege if not a son, there's less room
LITTLE EXTRA : You can start the story from when they're teens, or if you jump forward to around 1715/S1, then she hasn't seen Charles Vane in a minute so they're not really positive they know each other anymore-- other than that, she could be working for Flint or really anything whatever storyline's working out
If you're not liking Estella or Florence, Mimi Ndiweni or Clare-Hope could be her
Dido and Charles could be a slow as shit burn, or you could just Delete that flip flopping punk and Dido could be the only one he's ever really seen or cared about from the beginning -- feel like we could all agree our lives would've been fine without Eleanor Guthrie
Oh and if you're writing through the series and you want him to survive, then you know I'm good with that even though his death scene was amazing
