Despite being so well-travelled, he's less familiar with Westeros than most. He was never curious, and after accepting coin from the Greyjoys and meeting the Ironborn, he is even less so. But when a tempest reminiscent of the tales he'd heard of the Doom of Valyria leaves his company and others ship-wrecked on Valyria, he finds himself intrigued. Because not only does he meet a princess who is nothing like he imagined Westerosi to be, but those shockwaves were coming from the West, not Valyria
A LITTLE EXTRA : So feel free to include the White Walkers, but this plot actually does have the Doom again -- basically a chaotic, apocalyptic disaster movie happening in Westeros -- and since that shit was a mystery Arianne & Co about to be figuring out what type of magic's destroying the land this time
